The best replacement for an Octavia is.... a Fabia?

Featured Replies

My 12 year old Octy 1.9tdi has just gone over 200,000 miles. I'm doing 20-25,000 miles a year, although still running well there are a variety of minor annoyances building up and I'm considering a replacement. Thing is, I carry huge amounts of work kit in the boot and it still turns in an excellent 55-60 mpg when cruising at 70mph on supermarket fuel. I have a 150 mile run along the A303/M5/M3 twice a week and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the Greenline performance when loaded.

I really can't decide between another Octy (maybe even a new Connect SE) and a Fabia, possibly a Greenline (2). I've slimmed my kit down and just about managed to fit all my stuff into a Fabia down the local dealership (got some odd looks). But the only model they have to test drive is the Monte. There is also the issue of very few Fabia Greenline 2's on the second hand market. Is the 1st generation Fabia Greenline substantially different in real world conditions?

If boot space is an issue you really should be looking at a Fabia estate, not a hatch.

The estate has a 480 boot capacity (seats up)compared to 300 for the hatch...a lot more roomy.

The fabia estate boot is bigger than the yeti's.

I would agree the estate is a better option, however as a greenline estate owner I would say that although I returned 57mpg on a recent trip to Dublin 170 ish miles) with 4 less than athletic mates & golf clubs it wasn't quick off the mark..... But it is only a 1.2 diesel. The rest of the time it's very very good without the extra load of my nearest & dearest

I went from Octy VRS to Fabia VRS , i do occasionally miss the boot space but the seats drop easy enough , boot was big enough for a family weekend, as we had to take it when the maion car wouldnt start

I think you would be better of with the Fabia Estate. If you want new, then you could consider 1.6 tdi (105 bhp). But i am sure there are many great condition Fabia Estate's with 1.9 tdi engine.

I have a Fabia Estate, which can hold a huge amount of stuff in the boot and still have enough power to pull this and return over 60mpg.

Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm still trying to figure the best course of action but I will go look at the estate.

By the way Mansars, what sort of MPG do you get normally from the estate (i.e. without the Ryder cup team :giggle: )
