Favorit Engine Swap

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just joined the site today.

I have a friend with an early 90s favorit 1.3 and I did some work on it last weekend. It seems very similar to the general layout (i.e non-crossflowed head!) of some volkswagen engines I have worked on in the past, but I didn't think the two companies had been sharing parts that long?

Was wondering if anybody could confirm for me if the 1.3 is the same as the vw 1.3 used in the mk2 golfs etc?

It's just that i'm helping another friend, swapping the 8v 1.8 out of his golf for a later 16v arrangement, so there'll be a spare gti engine left at the end! Although the 1.0-1.3 and 1.6-2.0 blocks are totally different they mount exactly the same in the VWs, so thought that'd be a good swap into the lovely, light favorit!

Anyone tried/managed this swap before?

Also, whats the most powerful favorit model they made and which engine did it use?

Cheers

James

The Skoda 1.3 is just that, a Skoda engine.

However they fit the Polo 1.6 MPI engine in the Felicia, its basically the same 1.3 engine in the Favorit and the Felicia so you should be able to fit the Polo engine in the Favorit with Felicia mountings.

This is all just theoretical however and probably envolves cost that is way above the value of the vehicle. TBH you can get a immaculate late spec low mileage Felicia for very little money now and it would be a better bet.

Welcome to Briskoda, j-c. :)

Cheers for the speedy replies gents!

That's an interesting point about the polo/felicia engine, lummox, because from what I've seen over the years, pretty much every 4cyl VW engine, 1.6 and larger use the same block, even some of the newer stuff, so there may be scope for a little project! You're right in what you say about cost, it will not be an economical option whichever way you look at it especially getting hold of such a recent engine, but he seems pretty keen to have a rapid, stock-looking (marine green!) favorit.

I will take the 8v engine over to my mate's place next weekend and we'll do some proper comparison, measurements etc and see if we can't shoe-horn it in anyway. Wish us luck!

Once again, thanks for your input - any more info, ideas and opinion welcome!

Cheers

James
