bxe engine problems

Featured Replies

hi all

those of you who been following my plight will know the probs ive been having with my 57 octy 1.9 tdi

with the wandering con rod

well, ive managed to get another bxe lump with 35k on from an 08 a4

as you can imagine im well peeved only having had this car a month and having bought it privately

i'm now reading lots of reports about con rods on bxe's letting go so after spending megabucks on another lump being fitted i now have the worry of it doing it again and wondering if this one is in the so called bad batch of engines, i did'nt join up for this, i thought i was getting an ultra reliable skoda which would give me quarter of a million miles of reliable motoring, ok , i know nothing is cut n dried in this life but surely to god someone is acountable for this if this problem is fact

is there any point getting on to skoda i wonder?, has anyone else got this problem.?

i would be very grateful for your comments as i'm fast losing faith, with everything i'm reading

regards

gaz

Well I have the BXE eng in mine. Have done 57K now and still sweet as.

There's another thread on here about the BXE engine failures. I personally emailed Skoda UK about this and was told there were no known faults or reports from there technical dept about this engine. I'm satisfied with this result to be honest as there is always scare mongering going around about things on car forums. You really need to look at its past history as neglect can cause all sorts of problems to anything.

I don't think your SMF conversion caused this at all. I had mine converted under warranty at 35K and has been sweet ever since.

It's just one of those things that can happen to any engine at anytime in its life. Lots seem to think its just the BXE but I bet many other units have done this.

Feel free to email SUK and see what they say also about this. It would also be interesting to know what they say too.

To be honest I wouldn't worry about your new engine which was a good find. Just enjoy the car. The 1.9 really is a bulletproof engine as history dictates about them. I have many taxi owners here in Bournemouth who own 57,08,09 plate Octys and all have BXE engines that are on 220K + miles with no issues.

On ElsaWin the BXE was the last of the 1.9,s produced that was put in the Fabia,Roomster and the Superb 2 all with no known reports of failure.

This engine superceeded the BJB and came into production in late 2006.

I've not personally seen a BXE fail like this. Aside from a few glow plug issues (service items anyhow) and the odd camshaft sensor they are pretty much bullet proof.
