difference with fmic. bhp

Featured Replies

there is a lot of discussion what difference a front mounted intercooler might make to a fabia vrs or ibiza fr tdi. just been thinking back to when i had a 90 bhp 206 hdi. this is how the figures panned out with my mods.

chip alone from 90-112 bhp.

chip + tuning box. ( to increase fuel pressure )=133 bhp.

front mounted intercooler without rechipping =128 bhp!

all the above + re chipping= 154 bhp.

so you can see just adding a front mounted intercooler without adding more fuel wont increase power.

remember the 206 didn't have an intercooler at all though before start of tuning.

this got me to 7.20-60 and 1/4 mile in 15.3. i also had an uprated clutch that alowed me to take off in 2nd gear.

just thought it might be of interest to some people.

Tom. :D

 Impressive figures from a 90hp starting point.

I think for me, its less about getting more and more horses, its having the consistency of performance. It will help with getting the "max power" figures, but I really just want to have all year round cooling. ;)

how quick do some people want to go? mines quick enough just after a remap, panel filter and cupra intake I can stick with a WRX Impreza (bugeye) from a rolling start.

I saw one on Stars rollers, gave an extra 12bhp on a standard remap. ( Seat FMIC)

weight difference is only about 90Kg but the WRX has 215bhp and 215lbft, short gears and reaches 60 in around 6 sec's along with 4WD so has no probs with traction, i would be surprised if the fabia kept up

A FMIC may nt instantly give you more power, but come warmer weather it will help you keep the power you have. The higher the state of tune (i.e more boost pressure) the higher the inlet temps are.

I'm not and I wasn't when I kept up with a 221bhp Scooby, their not all that unless they have lots of work done to them, problem is don't race them off the line!

Off the mark scoobies are very quick, but when I drove a bugeyed scooby it didn't seem as quick as my fabia in it's tuned state. I'm not saying that it's slower just didn't "feel" as quick. Maybe the power comes in higher up the rev range than in the fabia hence a fabia can keep place with it. Though I could be talking total c**p :D

You need to rev those things real hard - but they do go like stink then ;)

the thing is the fabia has loads of torque so feels fast, not saying they are slow but they give a bigger impression of speed. the imprezza may have only a little more power and less torque but they have it over a much wider rev range

Impreza turbo really kicks in around the 3.5k/4k mark, so it's quite possible that if he's cruising, you'll catch him off boost. The bug-eye has a more civilised delivery than the classic shaped ones and doesn't pin you back in your seat, but look down at the speedo and you'll get a surprise. Also, the gearing isn't that short in them - can hit 67mph in 2nd, unlike the Jap imports where you'll need to grab 3rd to hit 60mph.... :D

Mike, go get a drive of a classic shape one with a Scoobysport exhaust ;)

Chris

I have done and I nearly bought it (damn insurance though) :D totally different to the bugeye, the classic feels and sounds like it shifts.

Damn you chris why did you have to remind me............off to look at scooby prices now ;)

I'll go halves? ;)

Although after watching the Top Gear re-run on Uk Horizon's last night with the 400bhp Evo-8, I'm wondering if I can raise 40k ... what's the going rate for kidneys these days (one careful owner never been raced or rallied)? ;)

Chris

 lemme know if you get a good price for yours :P
