New office server time

Featured Replies

That time has come around again for me to spend some IT budget

So awaiting on a quote for a heavily specified Dell R720 server to act as our virtual host and what they can do me in the way of a Laptop.

Asked our account manager to use email and not phone me - so what is the first thing he does - ring me - Doh :wall:

Paul

I've been looking at the R720s as well, i'm either going to need three or six.

Will they throw a laptop in as a sweetener do you think? :)

What sort of prices are you guys getting for the 720 and 720 xd?

Haven't even got around to getting prices yet, the R620 and R720 are the only Dell servers certified for some new software we are looking at implementing so that's why I recognised the model number.

Hopefully getting around to spec'ing them next week.

I'll let you know.

Assuming you are buying direct from Dell, their financial year finishes at the end of January so you always get the best deals with a few weeks to go, and to a lesser extent at the end of each quarter.

We've shifted our big purchases to coincide for the last few years now :)

I wish I had the budget to buy new hardware at the minute :(

Well my "account manager" has quoted me for a spec that I ran through the on-line configurator and it comes out about £1K cheaper. So will be a pair of E5-2643 with 64GB of RAM and 4 1TB Near-Line Drives.

I have made the previous one last 3 1/2 years, once I have the new Virtual Network running, it will get a clean up and become the backup / test server.

Just a quick offer to anybody after dell 720 series servers, we resell these, so if you want pricing on a server, do feel free to contact us and I'm sure we'd be happy to quote you a good price.

We have been running 3 R710 for sometime now - Solid.

We have just upgraded the RAM too - We now have 163829.20MB availiable :D

Anyone using Cisco UCS Blades?

That spec is about £4.5k on my premier page for comparison.
