another Head Unit thread

Featured Replies

i searched on here and seen a few threads asking variants of similar questions but none that were particularly helpful in my case.

What i'm after is a Head Unit, still a single DIN, that will allow me to keep the standard SE CD multi-changer connected as well as plug in something like an iPod through a USB, 3.5mm jack or an iPod docking station.

Does such a thing exist and if so are there any that will look decent in the dash? I'm not wanting anything that looks too aftermarket, i'd rather it looked standard and lit up the same green as the instrument cluster.

Hopefully someone with a Fabia has one fitted and can point me in the right direction. I'm not bothered about the HU having Bluetooth or even its own CD slot as long as the multichanger still works.

Hopefully all that makes sense.

Cheers!

Bump, I have the same problem. Does anyone know of any after market head units that work with the multichanger?

Sorry,

Y do you want the facility to plug an MP3/iPod in as well as keeping the CD changer working........ just put the music from the CD's onto the MP3/iPod......

Sorted.

Ahh its more I like the idea of everything working, thats all :p

The general consensus seems to be that the factory cd changer won't work with an after market HU.

i do think there is one or 2 HU that work with the CD changer but need to do a little digging which ones it is.... but if there is an SUX then why bother.....

I have ripped mine out and got one with a USB on it, Got a 32Gb stick in it with all the music i want...

I had an alpine unit in mine, was great with built in iPod connectivity, not sure if it would work with the standard cd changer tho

If the unit can make full use of a USB memory stick the cd changer really is obsolete. Up to 8000* tracks; no fiddling with disks; track information on screen; can make endless categories and sub categories the lovlyness goes on and on. Honestly save weight and rip the cd out. I've just gone from a car with a six changer to one with USB input and no way would I use changer again even if I had one.

Slight loss of audio quality maybe but unlikely it will be perceptible through a head unit amp and your average door mounted speakers.

Plus no more someone looking for a cd at home and finding an empty case cos you have the thing in the car.

*From memory that is with 32gigs roughly. More than any sane person will ever need anyway.
