VRS using oil - normal?

Featured Replies

Been doing quite a lot of miles recently and just checked my dipstick and it was low, barely on the scale. I checked it not long ago and it seemed ok, maybe a 1/3 up the marker. I've just put in about 400ml of leftover top-up oil I had and this has bumped it up to the upper-mid point on the stick.

I'd estimate I'm using around 500ml of oil every 7-8k miles. Does this sound acceptable for a 87k BLT engine?

It isn't remapped, but I have had some oil leakage around the EGR breather. Surely it won't use half a litre of oil through there though?

I'm only asking as it'sonly the last couple of years that I've ever had to top-up the oil between services on this car, and I'm worried something is on it's way out!?

That doesn't sound to excessive to me, 1/2 a litre every 7-8k miles. Mine uses approx 200-300ml over 6k miles and it's done 141k miles. All engines use some oil, I check mine once a week along with all the other fluids - just keep an eye on it and don't let it get dangerously low!

I believe quite a few of the mk2 vRS's are using litres of oil over a few thousand miles!! Now that is excessive lol

strange :/ then again you have a blt engine. not sure if it would be different but mines never used any since owning it but mine is the earlier asz :/

Mine hasn't used a drop of oil in between services over 27,000 miles.

Mine is the earlier ASZ and I'm on 110k now.

With my 2004vRS apart from a top-up at around 6,000 miles it just lasted between services up to 64,000. Always seemed a bit overfilled after a service. I've had to top the SE up once so that might be using a bit more - haven't checked recently but it was only services 1.5k or so ago
