I'm currently having a problem with my power steering it seems to go very hard but no light or fault codes, i have never changed or checked the fluid as its in the most daft places under the battery tray, until tonight its the only time the light came on and it went horribly tough and all of a sudden went off and is back to half tough and normal, had a new battery last year and I cant figure what the problem could be :( any help would be appreciated.

I think you may have answered your own question - You have never checked the fluid. This would defiantly be a good start
