First Impressions

Featured Replies

Thought I would share my early impressions of my Superb Elegance Estate 2.0 Petrol DSG with anyone interested.

I picked it up on the 12th September having been ordered at the end of June. Finished in Amythyst Purple with ivory interior, it has got the black carpets and A /B posts. I was unsure about this but now believe, for me at least it looks good. It has now got around 1500 miles on the clock. Mileage is averaging around 35 mpg so is in line with the brochure. Most extras fitted except the power tailgate, upgraded speakers and assisted parking thingy. I have seen some threads on here about oil consumption so have made a point of keeping an eye on this. I checked it the day I picked it up and as at today it has not used any oil, so the extra 5 litres I got in stockready will probably last me a while. GOOD POINTS: Very quiet, very responsive (although still being used gently), very comfortable, panoramic sunroof is just amazing but will keep watch for any winter condensation which was an issue with my old Discovery. The standard sound system is plently good enough for all kinds of music, have tried everything from Meatloaf to Mahler. Roadholding is impressive considering the size of the vehicle and motorway cruising is very relaxing, if motorways can ever be relaxing. IRRITATIONS: Only two. The speedo only shows mph so the Maxi-Dot shows the speed as kmh. Apparantly UK law says speed must be shown in both. It would have been good to include both on the speedo and then given the option to change the Maxi-Dot display to mph as this is in line of sight. I am sure it could be changed with a VCDS, but would have to be changed back again to pass an MOT. The MDI – no matter how I try or whatever ipod I use it always needs to be set up to shuffle (mix in Skoda speak) every time the ignition is switched on, the setting on the ipod makes no difference and the media set up does not retain the settings when the ignition is switched off. There is no way to turn off the media or radio, you can only turn the volume all the way down if you want quiet, strange concept having it work away in the background with no-one listening. BAD POINTS: None as yet. In conclusion it is without doubt the nicest all round car I have ever owned. Considering the price it is unbeatable.

There is a mute button for the radio, does that not work ?

Not found the mute button for the radio, can do it for the phone, i can turn the volume to "0" and the mute symbol shows in the display but have not found any way of actually turning the radio off if the Sat Nav is running.

I cant turn mine off either.

Have you tried pressing the volume up/down button on the steering wheel (just press it straight and it should click which mutes the radio)? I have an SE Greenline spec but I'd imagine its much the same.

You can change the maxidot to show MPH or KMH.

Yep, mine is the same, press rather than rotate the volume button on the steering wheel and it mutes the radio.

You can change the maxidot to show MPH or KMH.

Only if you get someone with VCDS to code the cluster to Australia otherwise your stuck with only KMH.

The only way I found to mute the audio on the columbus is turn the volume down to zero, there is no mute function as such.

Strange as i've changed mine to MPH.

Just reading the blurb on the steering wheel controls and those with the phone kit fitted it looks like if you push it quickly it activates the push to talk system, but the book says if you push and hold for a long period of time it turns it off.

So might be worth trying a long hold when pressing the steering wheel volume control.

Nah...pressing the volume button just activates the Voice Control...I've just tried to mute the radio and that's the result.

I noticed turning the volume all the way down does stop the media player so I am assuming its not running in background when muted.

If you don't have the phone function then press the phone button on the dash this brings the mute symbol up in display and hey presto it's muted lol
