Variable service or Not

Featured Replies

I have a VRS 54 with 9000 miles, the service book has had hand writern in it next service due 10000. I never asked for the car not to be on variable servicing so am am confused. Phoned the dealer who informed me not to worry and service the car when it says. Just to confirm if the car is on 10000mile service will the service light come on at 10000 miles or does this light only come on with variable servicing.

If the service indicator comes on at around 9k miles you are on fixed servicing. If you are at 10k miles and it still hasnt come on you are most likely on variable.

You get the indicator on either, the only difference is if on Variable it just says "Service" then the mileage countdown.

Dont forget the indication is only shown for a few seconds after starting the engine where the mileage display is.

My last octy had fixed servicing and the "service 1000 miles" used to come up....just found out it does the same in my variable service one as well so it's going in on Monday (2nd service 38,000

You should get a warning around 1000 miles in advance. A text message will appear in the trip counter display for about 20 seconds each time you start the engine. Why not ask the dealer to connect your car to a diagnostic machine and confirm what type of servicing it is programmed for?

if it is set to 10000mls servicing can a dealer change to vari ??

i have mine done every 10K miles and the light didnt come on till 19K miles or there abouts... i booked it in then and by the time i got to the garage it was just over 21K.

i think my car was on variable from the factory but i prefer to have it done every 10K.

if it is set to 10000mls servicing can a dealer change to vari ??

If it's not already been serviced and changed to the standard oil , yes

Cheers it must be on variable then. Its good to know you get a countdown till it is up. :)

I would like to service it every 10K but I am not that rich.

Look at the sticker in the boot or in your service book.

Near the bottom left there will be a three figure code amongst all the other codes.

QG0 - Fixed servicing

QG1 - Variable servicing.

Cheers
