K04 Conversion help

Featured Replies

Im toying with the idea of doing a K04 conversion on my VRS 1.8T. Ive been keeping my eye out for bits the last few months, So far ive got 3" MAF with JR cone filter, Brand new set of 386cc injectors, Relentless K04 downpipe/sports cat and 4bar fuel pump. Map wise ive got a few good stage 1 BAM/AMK maps but have just been reading that the AUQ doesnt have an EGT sensor? I believe the APY was the only engine/turbo 225BHP without EGT fitted but i think its only narrowband? So my options are retrofit EGT sensor to my loom or fit BAM/AMK loom to my engine. Which one would work out cheaper/easier? Also if anyone has already done the conversion is there any parts/info that would be useful to me? Would be much appreciated, Thanks

its a lot of work/money for not much gain tbh,imo for silmilar money a better option is a hybrid ko3s with k04 style wheel, or go mid range turbo ie gt2860 or ihi vf34 or td04/05

I looked at hybrids but they arent cheap now, Also there are no decent custom tuners in my area so would be a pain getting mapped to suit. Thats why im now wanting to try and run a std k04 map, basically make my engine/turbo/ECU same as a BAM/AMK setup so i can use the k04 software. Will save £3-500 in mapping alone  Im thinking maybe just change the loom for a BAM/AMK one, had a look about and can be picked up fairly cheap. Im already at stage 2 with decent FMIC etc so would expect around 270BHP with K04-023. I think it could be worth doing for the 40 extra ponies, Rough estimate is £850 for everything inc Badger 5 TIP, BAM loom and EGT sensor.

you will need to get the ecu modified/coded to fit your car, does the relentless downpipe allow you to fit the ko4 to your current setup?

what about the intake pipework, the k04 runs the throttle body on the other side of the intake with a twin smic setup, or will you modify to fit what you have?

Most of the ME7.5 ECUs are the same, will be able to run K04 software on my current ECU. I do a bit with ECU's myself so will flash map on my bench flashing rig. Yes relentless downpipe will allow me to join to my current cat back system will minimal work, maybe need a sleeve but nothing major. Will leave all the pipework pretty much as it is, will just extend any connectors if req

nice, sounds like you know what you are doing, was assuming you would have to get someone to flash maps and swap data, as you can do (nice one btw) then will save you some money

Im ok with the flashing side of things and basic hex editing but writing files is on another level. Would take years to do properly. Its very handy to be able to do it, especially immo defeats and cluster/ECU swaps/cloning. Just need to find a decent turbo now. Will have to wait a while, Moving house in next few weeks and the missus will be wanting new everything lol

lol, well if you are moving house, there is never gonna be an end to the spending!

well thats def a good skill to have, forgot you offered to help with my immob issue (thanks again), should have put 2 and 2 together when i read this post and worked out if you can do the immob delete you could probably do this!

get on the forums looking for ko4s, some of the tt ones would be where i would look!

I'm going to be doing the same conversion next year, have got all the bits apart from fuel pump, going to.use a walbro pump, turbo I have doesn't have an egt, thinking about fitting a relentless v3 manifold at same time, but then I'm getting to limit of the standard conrods, but I can get brotek, shark performance dealer to limit the torque.

Will probs be next year by the time i get round to it lol. I just got leon cupra r pump, easier to fit and should easy do the job. I was going to get manifold aswell, im just guna see what comes up on the forums. If a nice one comes up cheap may be tempted. I may be getting close to the limit aswell, will have 3" downpipe, pro alloy FMIC, Badger 5 v2 TIP etc. Think i will be ok, dont want to be changing rods really.

APX also didn't have EGT sensor, random probably unhelpful info.

Yes looked into the APX, thought id cracked it when i found an engine with K04 and no EGT's but they are narrowband, only use one lambda :-( as far as i know none of the engines that use the K04 are wideband and dont use EGT's will probs end up just getting a BAM loom, K04-023 and an EGT sensor, BAM map and away we go.
