Furby vRS. 163 miles to wales. 61.8mpg!!!!

Featured Replies

All,

Just gotten back from a weekend away in Wales. Trip from Leamington Spa to Wales consisting of M40, M42, M5, M6, M54, A5 + lots more A and B roads totalling 160 miles each way.

Took it easy on the way up (although the Furby was loaded up with 3 people + a v.full boot!) and got a frankly astonishing 61.8mpg!! Came back today a fair bit quicker though and only got a meagre 52.5mpg for the trip. :P

Good ole Furby!

At what speed was the 61MPG? Thats really good, furby was obviously liking the trip!

That's rather amazing actually - I get about 43 mpg average over the trip '2' which appears to be a rolling 1000 mile average as I don't reset that one ;)

whats the point of owning the vrs if you arnt going to have any fun in it. the fuel economy is amazing as it is for the power you have under your foot. you must have been itching to open her up. maybe it's just me but i'm not that restrained in mine, no patients in other lane hogging drivers. must admit though, if ya saving your pennies then 61mpg does a fine job of it.

If you do a constantly dead 70 its really attainable. I managed to get 60.5mpg out of dads Furby vRS on the way back from liverpool over 300 miles. It was just touching 1/2 a tank when i arrived home, and i did 70 dead all the way but not using my hills to my advantage like topgear did.

I was and still am amazed by it

Must admit I enjoy getting up to speed quick, but at the same time I have not hit those kinda figures even on the M25 on cruise doing 70 and a bit mph, I was hitting about 45 though I seem to remember.

Do you have the older gearbox with a longer 6th?

i cant get over about 50 even driving like a nun

Is that actual milage or from the trip computer? My trip computer reads about 5 mpg better than what I actually get. My average is normally 42-45 day to day driving but the trip normally stays around the 50ish mpg.

To clear up a few points:

- When on ther motorway (and not stuck in traffic) I was cruising around the 65-70mph region. However only about 1/2 my journey was motorway. The rest being 45% A-roads and 5% B-roads.

- My Furby is an '05 plate with the later gearbox.

- The 61.8mpg figure is from the trip computer.

Still dead chuffed with myself

From the other thread I started recently http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=28386 -

Yesterday I left a very congested Brands Hatch to join a congested M25 and after 51 miles the computer was showing 65.1mpg! Even when I got back to Gloucester after about 150 miles driving as quickly as traffic would permit or up to the speed limit the computer was showing 60.5mpg. The trip down to Brands in the morning had been less congested and hence quicker. Neverless the trip for the whole day's motoring showed 56.7mpg and topping up showed a true 54.8mpg achieved.

One major factor in mpg is how hilly your journey is. My trip to work is mostly going uphill and doing 60mph gets me about 54mpg. The return trip again doing 60mph gets me about 68mpg. I sometimes set myself a challenge of getting the return trip as high as possible. So far my record is 73.4mpg!

Im gonna make it my lifes ambition to get mine 100+MPG... Lets find a cliff...

My best so far is 64 mpg from Leamington to the lake district... sat on cruise at 70mph. And that figure was post remap! :D

i think cruise helps alot thats why i need it lol with mpg improvements like that it would pay for its self in about a monthlol

Well done guys, some astonishing economy going on here!

I obviously don't have the patience for this maximum MPG business, best for me is 55mpg coming from Lake District to Manchester. Was at 80-85 mind, and a mix of normal m/way crusing and setting cruise control. Have managed 58mpg on a cross-town 30min trip too, not exceeding any speed limits, so there might be hope for me yet!!

Steve

I recently managed 73.2mpg on the way back from the peak district! (130miles) It's a long story but let's just say I didn't enjoy the drive! Even lorries were overtaking me.

I got 62.1 yesterday morning on the commute to work, that involved a drive through Leicester and Warwick city centres!!

The most I ever managed was 52 MPG and that was 20 miles at 70 mph on the A1.

The average I got was about 35 MPG. To be honest, my petrol powered Golf GTI is not much worse on average, but it cannot attain the highest figure that the Fabia could get, but it can get within about 10 MPG of it most of the time, which is good enough for me :D

There must have been something wrong with your furby or it was constantly driven hard as I used to have a Mark 3 SE and the fuel consumption was noticeably worse than my furby even on eco drive!

Maybe there was mate, I always had my suspicions, the fuel consumption was never as good for me as claimed, but then, neither was my mates TDI Sport Ibiza. So perhaps these diesels arent as economical as claimed.

On my run home tonight, the Golf GTI's trip computer was showing 25 MPG, with 2 passengers, and to be honest, the Furby would not have done much better on the same run (3 miles, heavy traffic almost constantly).
