Noise issue on test drive

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just test driven a 56 plate VRS derv with 75k on the clock. Priced well and in pretty good condition, only thing which puts me off is no cruise control (could retro fit it) and the miles.

anyway, when driving it at low speed, 40 and below, you can hear a whine which goes with the revs. Its not alternator whine like you'd find in cars with aftermarket stereos (and blown earth tracks in the headunit) but more of an engine whine.

I've been told it could be alternator bearing/belt or clutch bearing. Has anyone had similar?

I'm tempted to buy it but for this issue

cheers

tbh im thinking the same.

Its up for 7k and the garage wont budge. Its a low price for the area but the noise really does worry me as its one of this which could be anything and the item my mechanic friend said it could be would cost big money to fix

No cruise ??? Ummm.... sounds like a early mk 2 which didn't have the extras as standard when they changed it during 07.

If your spending that sort of money, you should be able to find a vRs with the ' extras ' as ' standard ' namely....cruise,18" alloys, rear electric Windows and jumbo box, will most certainly have climate control as well. Not quite sure what the earliest plate these would come standard on, mines a 57 and has all the extras, dunno if they were standard on a 07 plate though.....

this ones a 56 plate but 2007 registered.

No cruise but dual zone climate and all electric windows.

The more I think about it the more i think its better and safer bet not to go for it with all the possibilities that could be wrong

Low oil in the gearbox can lead to a whining noise. If so, might have shortened the life of the gearbox.

cruise did not become std until the mk2 face lift. I have a June 08 vrs and I have no cruise control.

Plenty of cars for sale trust your gut feeling!

Leave it alone buddy.

£7k for a 56 they're having a laugh mate.

Noise could have just been the rear wheel alignment but for that money sod them.
