major condensation

Featured Replies

Well its the time of year again and my vrs is bothered with major condensation again, got into yesterday morning and the front window was frozen inside.last year I had the interior out and fixed a couple of water leaks, ran it for weeks with no carpet,no more leaks, but was still the same last winter with condensation, only thing I've noticed is driver's seat belt gets damp,I'm pretty sure I have no water leaks, carpets, inside boot is bone dry, only thing I've thought about is buying a sealey ultrasonic leak detector kit,run it about window seals etc, don't know if its any good tho.

Mine suffers with a bit of condensation on the inside of the front windscreen but not had it long enough yet to see how bad it gets in winter. No damp carpets etc but ive noticed my drivers seat belt also gets damp. Just cant for the life of me find out why?

run the air con, without recirculate on, and itll clear much much quicker. even with temp up to hot.

largely they all do it, body heat, cold nights, breath = moisture

on really cold mornings i put a fan heater in car for a few minutes while having breakfast, car is warm and completely clear and it costs less than running car as itll use alot more £££ in diesel. Plus its better for the engine not to tick over for ten minutes in morning

Air-con doesn't work below 4c,the amount of condensation I have there must be something wrong somewhere,I will hopefully find it.

Mines is the same it's possibly just a trait of this particular car?

Using anti mist treatment every couple of weeks makes a big difference, still annoying though

these cars leak like sieves, if you have a leak (check under carpet) it will be terrible in winter, mine was until i fixed the leak.

Mine's fine. Proper full leather helps keep that down though. ;) Not that 'orrible vRS pleather.

pleather lol...or plasticeather..

I have had my vrs over 5 years now,in that time I have fixed various water leaks, its the only thing that annoys me about the car, condensation in the winter, apart from that the car has been fine,I had an old Peugeot 205 as a run around, was never bothered with condensation.

The MK2,s do it also. Mine has condensation on front and back windows but doesn't freeze. It doesn't have any leaks though. Only happens when parked at work overnight as it garaged at home.

I can't find any specific leaks on mine (fixed the grommet issue by the pollen filter), but I left it parked at Midstay parking at Stansted from 25-30th October and when I returned, the inside of all windows was soaking wet - good job I had some paper towels I had borrowed from work to clean the windows.

I have noticed my drivers side seatbelt does sometimes feel damp, normally the car is garaged overnight so only gets wet when it is parked at work or I am away from home.

Air-con doesn't work below 4c,

Say what?!

i tend to run mine with the windows down before i put it away for the night to let out all the warm/damp air

Say what?!

Thats what i was thinking, mine works when i press the button on the dash mmmm, must be a new eu thing then where, you cant choose to do anything for yourself anymore

If I doesn't work below 4, my whole winter is screwed!

pretty sure it works, but not for cold air, it still heats (as aircon can cool and heat) and acts as a dehumidifier

Thing to do is when you pull up for the night change the blower to the foot well. When you start the moist air goes to the footwell and after. Few mins switch it to the screen.

Another thing is to have the glass as clean as possible. I have used a few different cleaners but my favourite has to be Ceriglass

I like meths. Makes the car smell nice too. Missus not quite so keen...

and...

No, I hashen't been drrrrinnnking oshifffeerrrr....

i like turtles..

I like smashing pumpkins....

(really, I like doing that too...)

I have used IPA after g4 but found the Ceriglass really easy to use. And a better finish.

Did you use the meths with doors open or closed. :D

i like turtles..

You clean the glass with Turtles...

Luca, you and I need to have a chat sometime...

dewaryboy's statement is correct, for values of correct relating to the air conditioning compressor and drier. This is to protect the condensor from excess ice buildup.

The heater and air blender box still work normally, but aren't fed with dried air.
