major condensation

aren't they fed with dehumidified air though, rather than normal warm air (like if the car did not have aircon)?

Not when the compressor has been disabled, because the dehumidification is a function of the compression and chilling processes rather than being magic!

you mean its not magic....

oh...

but a dehumidifier doesn't need to chill to work, i have a dehumidifier at home and it doesn't chill as far as i know.

or are you saying in this setup it does both, but can't dehumidify without chilling?

ps

Baaaahaaaahaaaa... loony!

So do I, and the dehumidification is accomplished by condensing (well freezing) vapour on a coiled tube, then melting it into a bucket.

epic eh!!!

one of my fav clips!

so i take it thats how all dehumidifiers work?

From the horses mouth....

The outside temperature switch (F38) switches off the magnetic coupling through the radiator fan control unit at a temperature of 2°C and switches it on again at 5°C (anti-icing protection for evaporator).

Check your condensation drain valve (on the bulkhead). If it's blocked then all the condensation that drips off the evaporator will stay in the car and make it humid.

I always switch to ECON towards the end of journeys and dial up the temperature a bit. Then after 5 mins I open the window to let all the hot humid air out. This process helps to remove residual condensation from the evaporator and helps against the morning steamer problem!

So are we saying that my entire Alpine winter is gonna be without dehumidified air?

Coz I kinda need to know that! What do people in proper cold countries do?? In the UK, the clima is often used more in the winter, than the summer on my car...

good question, am waiting to hear that too, was hoping ken might respond

Im pretty sure the air-con compressor doesn,t operate below 4 degrees,it,s to protect the pump,im sure the newer style air-con pumps are ok,it was just vag,s way of protecting the pumps.

4c is correct.

Best not breathe inside the car in the Alps then!

pretty sure it works, but not for cold air, it still heats (as aircon can cool and heat) and acts as a dehumidifier

Nope does not work under 4' buddy.

good point to check. and yep I always do what you prescribe too.

Also note to the OP . It may not be a leak but the opposite like a blockage as this will cause the same issue. If you cant get water out or condensation your car will be damp inside. Typical areas to check to see if drain holes are clear is both sides of bulk head. make sure the drainage is clear to allow water to run through and down inner wing channels. You may need to remove arch liners and clean up crud from inside. You will be amazed how clogged that gets.

I had the liners off recently, had them off 2 years ago.as well, its all clean there, drains at each side of bulkhead are clear as well,air-con drain isn't blocked either,I'm running out of ideas,I've had a few cars in my 21 years of driving, never had a car that's been bothered with condensation inside like the Octavia,I love the car apart from that.I've been a mechanic for 22 years so in that time have had to fix a few water leaks, but I'm 99.9% sure I've not got a water leak into the car,I served my time on fiats in the early nineties so every other week you were fixing water leaks.

frankly the vrs is terrible for leaks and condensation, its not the same with audi or the vws i have had, but skodas seem to hold conensation..shame really!
