My Roomster is not to well at all :(

Featured Replies

i own and love my 1.9tdi roomster had her for over 6 months now with no trouble at all done over 12,000 miles taking her up to 68,000 on the clock. I have just got back from a trip to Germany as usual she ran lovely no issues i don't drive fast steady trace is me 60 mph on motorway i am never is a rush :)

then the trouble started :( got home next day rear wash wipe stopped working and boot stayed unlocked so took a quick look at this site and viola easy fix with just what was written on a post broken wire on boot left hand side at the top. job done :)

got in her sunday tried to start and she struggled i thought maybe is was due to the cold weather it was -6 in Germany and she started no trouble there so had another go she started and so did the illuminations , now i am no machanic , She ran lumpy for a few mins then stopped i had so many things on dashboard didnt have time to read them all , what i do recall is in list below,

Exhaust immisions workshop,

Engine fault workshop,

then i had lots of lights come on the dash ,,,looked at the owners manual, so here goes

engine sign = control system for exhaust

curly line flashing = book says glow plug system deisel engine

steering wheel = electrohydraulic power steering

flashing headlight = think this is for the turning headlights but not sure

called the AA out and he gave me a long list of faults that he was unable to clear.

P0243=turbo waste gate

P0489 egr valve

P0727= engine speed input

P2102= throttle actuater

engine oil level good advised to take to a garage asap

last night a friend who is an apprentise at skoda dealer came to have a look we eventually got her started and went for a run she does run only 2 lights now on engine sign and the flashing curly line but she is not well at all i can take her over 3,000 revs easily but she has no power does not pull away like she used to , he then told me she looks like the DPF has gone ?? so i now have an even longer list and dont know what to do next i dont even know if she will start today.

any help would be great just so i can go to skoda with some knowledge of my beloved roomie , i have had a bad run of luck with skoda dealership near me last service was done there and a little fib was told to me about my car confirmed at another dealership as rubbish so wurried now i may be lied to again what do i do .

Help Please :)

Check the battery and all it's connections including the connection to the car body. Check the alternator output.

The clue to this could be you're never in a rush. DPF diesels need to work hard, it helps to keep the DPF clear.

i was told that this morning also told to take it along the motorway for 30 miles or so to clear dpf will try this before i go to skoda

why would i check the battery and alternator ?

Hi Tracey,

Noticed your post in the welcome section. Are you sure your 56 plate has a dpf?? I may be wrong but I would have thought a roomster of that age would be running a PD engine without a DPF.

It's my understanding that DPF was introduced later than that. My 2008 (08) roomster scout runs a PD105 engine with no DPF.

oh i don't know i have been told that it does have a dpf so not sure .

will give an update when i get car down to skoda today for diag i think i will be openeing the xmas fund early for my car :(

Hi Tracey,

Sorry to hear your woes. Hopefully the fault will not be too expensive to put right.

I agree with Jonny5ive. It is my understanding too, that the Roomster 1.9 TDI was never fitted with a DPF.

Mine is 2009 and does not have one.

Hi Tracey,

I think that your Roomie does not have a DPF. I also believe that might be your battery - alternator is the source of your Christmas Dash. I can recall a friend's Golf that had his dash lights flashing and beeping but was unable to start the engine and turned out to be his battery.

But on the other hand it might be a faulty ignition coil or even a faulty spark plug. But if it was my car I would start searching - examining first for faulty ignition coil, then spark plug, then battery connections (as mentioned above), then had my battery checked - tested and then my alternator. The last and worst scenario I would search for is a faulty ECU, But even in the worst scenario I would search for another ECU in a brake yard.

Do not worry it will be something easy to fix, just find a good dealership or a VAG specialist keeping in mind that your engine is one of the most famous and bulletproof ones amongst hole VAG.

And please do not hear people say that your car was an ex - garbage. No one will be happy to your happiness but everyone will be happy to your sorrow.

Hi everyone ,

first of all i would like to say thankyou for all your advice and help :-)

i went to Cardiff Skoda at 11.30am today with no appointment and they were lovely to me :-) they put my roomie on diagnostic machine and it came up with another 14 faults :-( by now i am getting worried about my bank balance :-(

They have spent 4.30 hours on my car one machanic who just wouldn't give up it bugged him he trawled through all the electrics on my car he did a manual wiring check on wiring and looms found a wiring loom incorrectly located and touching fan unit, then he found a broken wire for load signal from alternator, checked the rest of wiring and fuses found that some fuses were in wrong place replaced fuses putting them all in correct places ( not sure how they had been moved as i am a key in and go driver :-) ) and viola all codes gone checked egr valve all good , confirmed that my car does not have dpf on it :-) took my baby for a test drive for 1/2 hour and all good :-)

well pleased they only charge me for 2 hours labour at £96.00 per hr plus parts a lot i know but to have a bill for £200.09 is far better than one running in thousands which i was expecting , they treated me very well indeed didnt hide anything and kept me up to date all the time what a lovely service i had from them . without a doubt i will go back there :-)

so my baby is back home and running better than ever my trusty roomie bless her :-)

so if any of you guys n gals are in the cardiff area i would definately recommend Cardiff skoda just perfect company :-)

Thanks again for all your help :-)

Excellent. Good result and not too costly :thumbup:
