Advice on front discs and pads for my 02 VRS

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have recently bought my first VRS and will need to change the front discs and pads within the next month or so.

Has anyone got any advice on what brand works best....for example Brembo,or Pagid or more specialised such as EBC?

My car is standard and I am a 47 year old family man and do not drive 'like I stole it'.....but I do make aadequate progress when the conditions are right if you get my drift.

Neil. OEM genuine discs coupled with Ferrodo DS2500 pads will perform outstandingly. Regards Slightly younger Pete.

It's good that you're younger now Pete

Bang on. Although honestly, even with standard pads, the OE setup is one of the best out there IMHO.

I have bosch discs and pads up front and had no problems even when driven hard

stay away from black diamond pads, they erm....fall apart!! my tarox discs are very good, with ds 2500 pads you would have a very good oem+ setup...

Ecp paid discs and pads are the same as Oem and are good

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

ATE Power disc + ATE disc pads

What sort of cost am I looking at for Tarox discs and DS2500 pads??

ds2500 pads are about £150 for fronts I know that much.

just get genuine or pagid

No point in spending £150 on some front pads if its not going to be used in vain much.

May be worth speaking to Dave Brown at Vagbremtechnic. An absolute diamond who can supply you with any braking components. I've used him and can recommend him highly. Mention me and this site if you contact him. I'm sure he will do you an excellent deal. Cheers Pete.

I bought the oem stuff from euro car parts which corroded away very quickly which I know isn't normal! Got my money back and bought a full EBC drilled discs at the front with red stuff pads!!! They are awesome and cost £250ish for full front set up which companed to the £150 ish for standard isn't bad! I know they are unnessacary but they are also good!

What Euro Car Parts stuff did you use? Pagid or cheapos?

I want to say ercher?!? Or something similar supposedly OEM stuff

Ahhh seen Eicher stuff, budget I think. Just wanted to check it wasnt Pagid which I'm told -is- OEM which ECP also do.

Many thanks for all the info and advice. I am going to go with the EBC option with a Turbo disc and red stuff set up on the front. £258 all in which is great value IMO

Red stuff????? Nooooooo....

I'd have stuck with Pagid OEM fronts and the DS2500's myself.

Every time I've tried EBC pads I've been more than underwhelmed, and the pad life was pretty pathetic too.

Without starting a fight I couldn't disagree more pads done 15k and 3 track days still loads left IMO

I can only assume the EBC discs must be hard as nails then. On standard discs they went out of shape real quick, and then wore out real quick for me. Not on an octy though, I'll admit. And greenstuff's I went through in a matter of months, with absolutely no improvement in braking. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they were worse than cheap discs with FREE brake pads that I got from Motaquip on that car...

Fair one! The discs are the drilled vented ones I will say they are bloody heavy though so maybe a different compound metal?!?! Who knows

I would expect so. There are several different grades of steel.

am not a fan of ebc stuff either, the green stuff were ok, but nothing like pagid fast road pads used to be, now they were a good pad!

Word is that Pagid have been bought out too, so things could get a bit on the pap side in the future.
