braking shake

Featured Replies

Hi

Had new front discs and pads put on the front and new pads on back of my 02 110 Tdi because of what I thought were warped front discs. The Garage were also going to replace the shot front arb bushes but could'nt get them in time.

Now a few weeks later after a series of heavy breaking sessions into roundabouts the shaking is back....steering wheel, through the seat, dash and break pedal are all affected. Today I got the arb bushes done...No more thack thump over rough pot holed roads any more but I'm sure I can feel a slight tremmer through the pedal, havent had time to do any high speed breaking yet.

I supplied the pads and discs from GSF parts...brembo discs and good qaulity pads and they all look good viewed through the wheel spokes.

Do I replace discs again or has anybody got any idea on the problem.

Hubs. And it may have warped your new discs too. :( It does happen.

But, you don't have to junk the discs. There are places that can grind out the runout in situe, without having to remove the discs. Obviously they do have to take the wheels off though.

Check the discs for run out with a dial gauge indicator.

Why the heavy braking into roundabouts?

Is your steering wheel shaking as usually when you can feel it through seat its rear brakes,

Did you bed brakes in or just knock hell out of them straight away

No, I'm no boy racer and treat my car with respect. The braking was so good after the work was done, just so supprised how quickly it started juddering again.

Sounds daft but what are your tyre pressures like ?

Hubs.

Or...

Tracking.

Either can be responsible for this, and funnily enough one can then impact the other - so juddering under braking because of dodgy tracking can cause some severe wear on your discs/pads.

...? Was there a question there? ;)

Hi

Going to check pressures, wheel alighment and balancing and go from there.

Ben, do you make a habit of riding the brake pedal after these heavy stops?

If so, then you could have uneven deposit transfer from pads to discs (which most people think is warped discs) or possibly actual warping due to uneven cooling of hot discs.

Don't think I ride the brakes.......ie: Coming from Liverpool to Herefordshire last Sunday I came home Chester, Llangollen, Oswestry, Shrewsbury route, Its a nice road made up of lots of short dual carriageway into roundabouts and two way A roads. I like to keep the car travelling on and like to get by HGV's and slow traffic where its safe to do so. As I approach roundabouts my "heavy braking".......apply brakes gradually and firmly into the roundabouts and release to take the roundabout. After a series of these the brakes get progressively more juddery!

Gone out in the car this morning just to try it out, its fine driving from cold like a old grandad but when brakes have been used firmly and they get warm vibrations start to increase. My partner had a drive back and she said it was OK but she drives like a Granny!

Will have to get a second opinion....Anybody live close by?

Where are you?
