argh first incident

Featured Replies

Driving to work this morning on a lane wide enough for 2 cars easy when some **** in a Vauxhall astra van went zooming past and hit my mirror

He didn't stop I hootted at him but he didn't stop, the glass had come out on the drivers side, I did have a look but couldn't find the glass, I gave him plenty of room as well i hastened to add

Anyway I got back this after noon and gave my dealer a call and spoke to the parts department and they quoted me £34 +vat so £40 is there anywhere else I might be able to get it as I thought that was a little steep

What do you think?

Sorry for long rant!!!

If its only the glass then you can get a replacement glass from Halfords as long as there is still something for the new glass to stick to. As the car is so new it probably isn't on their system yet but they can still get one cut to pattern. Either a stencil from the other side (mirror image) or one from another Citigo. In stock glasses are usually about £8.99 and cut to size aren't much more and way way less than you have been quoted. The cut to size service is usually about 7 - 10 days turn around ( I know cos I work there ) Advice - do the stencil yourself as it will be cut exactly to whatever the stencil is.

How does the above work if the mirror is heated as in the Elegance? Is the heater element stuck/fastened to the rear of the mirror or actually in the mirror?

Mick

£40 is cheap, at least you didn't lose the wing mirror!

A Yeti one supplied, painted and fitted is around £400 as it's electric (like the Citigo Elegance) and has an indicator in it...

The Halfords fix is just a cheap fix that does the job as a lot of people don't want to pay the full price for Manufacturers equipment. If yer want the proper job then yer have to pay the proper money.

I will take a pic to show, as I said I don't think anything else is damaged, yea being elegance it's heated, I can see some sort of plug

I will have to book it tomorrow I suppose it's easier to just go the dealer and have it done

Luckily it just seems to be the glass and not the whole mirror, how much would a full mirror be then in comparison to just the glass and in fact to the yeti?

Commiserations Elegance. Did he overtake you, or was he coming towards you?

Having previously always had larger cars (2 sizes up), I have found one drawback with the Citigo - its small size. (And this applies to other small car drivers I have spoken to).

For some reason other larger vehicle drivers (especially white-van man) seem to think you are a nuisance on the road, no matter how fast you are driving. They are either right on the back of your car, or carving you up!! :wonder: :(

Hope the repair doesn't cost too much.

I think that for the sake of £40 you may as well just fix it properly with genuine parts. It's a virtually brand new car and I don't think sticking an £8 halfords mirror will be doing it justice. As much as it sucks, pay the £40 and retain a perfect oem look and fully working heated glass.

By the sounds of it, you will have nothing to stick the halfords repair glass to anyway, as they are designed to stick on top of a broken/shattered mirror.

Totally sucks you should have to pay anything. :(

Be cheeky with your dealer, try asking for a briskoda discount, my dealers give one

I agree - the replacement glasses tend to be bought for older cars or temporary replacements when there is a long delivery time. ie it's better to have a temporary mirror than no mirror.

Does anyone else feel when driving the Citigo that taking into account the mirrors one needs to be careful as the car seems wider than expected?

Haha. DM Keith?

They give me a discount from time to time from the days I used to go in with my Felly L&K with big Briskoda sticker on the boot.

Agreed with above though. Get the OEM replacement. £40 is not all that bad really.

I've booked it in for Saturday, they can then have a look in case there is more damage then meets the eye, yeah it does seem quite wide especially when reversing into the garage

Yep, it feels as large as our old Vectra C but it's an optical illusion, and that's a good thing I'd say :)

I seem to tighten my bum cheeks a bit more when driving between parked vehicles and oncoming traffic than with our previous Nissan Tiida. Maybe it's because I love it so much

When we were ordering a Citigo Elegance for my wife the other day, the salesman told us that it is actually fractionally wider than a Fabia, which surprised me if true (I haven't bothered to look up measurement data), although I was surprised (pleasantly) by the amount of elbow room in the front when we took one for a test drive.

Did a quick google check. My old Nissan was 66.6ins. Skoda Fabia 65.00ins and Skoda Citigo 64.6ins. These are all before mirrors. I think it is the mirrors I tend to feel I have to be careful of.

Citigo 1910 mm (mirror to mirror) or 75.2ins in old money :)

Has that dug in to the paintwork or on the top? I've found Autoglym Super resin polish works well at removing surface marks.

Mick

I live in constant fear of damaging the mirrors on the S3.

They are made of of cast polished aluminium (Not plastic)

Have LED indicators built in, and are also electric, heated, and self dimming.

They also mark the car out as being a performance A3 variant.

I dread to think what a replacement would cost if a fully fitted and

painted Yeti mirror is around £400. Best give everything a wide berth. :p

If it is a surface mark then that should polish out, if a bit deeper then maybe a professional valeter or something like chips away may be able to do a repair job for the fraction of a bodyshop price.

Ian.

P.S. I would be tempted to go with the OEM mirror route as, unless someone will prove me wrong, the mirror is not only heated but also convex to give a wider field of vision.
