Featured Replies

Hi all......

I hope I am not asking a forbidden question for this forum (I don't want to turn it into an insurance quote site!!)

Does anyone know the best places for Fabia (1.4 8valve with no mods) insurance for a 22yr old driver with 1 yrs NCB (my son..good lad etc )

I would be v grateful for any places to go

Thanks etc

Well I'm exactly the same as him 22 1NCB due this month. Best quote I've had is £900 I have claim which wasnt my fault before as well

Get some quotes. Every single situation is different.

I just use the compare sites, im 23 myself with 2 years no claims and i got my fabia vrs and hyundry coupe 1.6 for 1200 with admiral. If i want just the vrs it was 750. I used compare the market and found admiral to be cheapest last time, last year it was rac though. Also i have 2 meetkats now!

Adrian Flux for me. £610 fully comp on a vRS, mods declared.

Aged 21 with 4years NCB

That is a great price.

I had a Skoda Fabia 1.4 mpi (2000 plate) for a couple of years. I am 23 years old now.

May 2010, brand new driver, brand new insurance living in Cheltenham GL50 came to £1300 for the year fully comp. Hastings insurance

May 2011, 1 Years NCB, living in Surrey GU21, was £700 fully comp. 1st Central

May 2012, 2 Years NCB, Living in Surrey KT14, was £500 fully comp. Admiral

Changed my car from the 1.4 mpi to 1.9 TDI PD 100 (2006 plate) in Oct 2012

I was asked for an extra £80 for the rest of my policy, still fully comp.

Generally went for one of the cheapest, but usually came down to a choice of 2 or 3 roughly a similar price.

From what I understand the 1.4mpi is insurance group 3, and the 1.9 TDI PD 100 is insurance group 5.

A friend of mine with a Corsa C, 1 Litre, was often being quoted higher than me. (He passed his test the day after me)

I go for the comparison sites, and find it pays even if staying with same broker to be new customer. But I'm geriatric with oodles of NCB and experience/clean licence .

Best tip ,I can give the young ones is to find some old relative with a decent record (maybe even some NCB) and add them to policy as named driver. Daughter has held license over nine years, with NCB and she's over 30, but adding me to policy ( as named driver ,not main driver) saves her over £100.And it's legal . I need never drive her car.

just had a quote from Hastings direct (they wouldn't quote through the online system).........£3763........What is going on? At present I am down to £1111 with co-op and Adrian Flux are shut so will ring tomorrow. I'm sure there must be a little insurance firm out there for him...Anyone got any further ideas?

Thx etc.

Tom

Per my last post- have you got a quote with you as named driver ? It's not fronting, but perfectly legal, and you need never drive the car . But it will drop the cost

HSBC insurance awful, LV - great.

I have tried that in the past and just get told that they will price the quote according to the higher risk driver. Of course at my age, insurance isn't a problem

well, thanks every one for the suggestions but I am getting huge quotations from the suggested companies i.e. Adrian Flux £4600 and Hastings direct £3763 which is actually twice what he (I) paid last year.....so it looks like the coop unless anyone can help any more.....He is definitely not a driver with any chequered past.......

Thx, all

Tom

Try Brentacre ! Did me a cheaper deal than the comparison sites and its for a modified policy.

Im a 19 year old male with 1 year NCB and pay Aviva £900 for full comp. :)

P.s I found that you can get cheaper prices if he inst the one on the V5. i.e. my dad is the registered keeper of the car on paper but its mine as I paid for it, so with me as the policy holder and my dad as the registered owner the price got bumped down a lot.

hope this has helped

That's odd, most companies iv used insist the policy holder is the registered keeper

OK.....Lycanthrope and everyone else who is reading/contributing.......I have now made many, many phone calls and the best I have so far is Admiral multi car which entails me changing my insurance next year to go with them (I have been with the same ins co for ages and don't particularly want to do that)

Lycanthrope....The best Brentacre can do is £1053 3rd party.....so I just don't know where all these 3 figure quotes are coming from.

But I must say to everyone thanks for all the suggestions (typical of this forum - excellent)

Thx again

Tom

Phone sky insurance. Cheapest for me. And you get a forum discount. They are on here. Have a look.

Thanks for the recommendation, call back request form below:

http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/call_back_new.phtml

Do recommend quite a bit. Always cheapest for me and your office is just up the road so I could pop in about any queries rather than be on the phone and press 1 then press 3 just to be put through to a call centre in India! And you send invites for FREE drag racing! Win win.

Remember beside age that postcode plays a big part in the level of insurance quotes. If you're in a "bad" area then quotes are bound to be higher. Don't tell him the insurance on my Atom is just over £300...

Very impressed with everyone's response but still getting nowhere....Sky sounded good but I was told that he has to have held a licence for two yrs before they will even look at him..........It's still looking like the co op.

We live in a non dodgy area and he has nothing to his detriment as a driver or in his personal history and the car is definitely not a sports car!!..(I think it is group 3). So, I will continue to look but will give up soon as I don't want to hog first post position all the time

All answers VERY much appreciated...........I saw one quote on the comparison websites wanting £9743 yes you read it correctly!!!............lol

Update............Kind of success. Finally went for chrisknott.co.uk, as advertised on this forum at a cost of £945 so if anyone is out there looking for insurance for a 22yr old with one years NCB and no untoward personal history for a 2001 reg fabia classic (8 valve) that is what I could come up with.

Thanks v much to all the people who tried to help with this post. This is a superb forum for Skoda owners so keep it up!!

Thanks again

Tom
