X1 or..?

Featured Replies

Yeah cos I'm sure he covers them up outside his house/when his driving. :D And ringers/thieves are sure to come to briskoda for a reg plate to use on a BMW when there's millions on auto trader.

Dont see a problem with displaying reg plates

Thanks for your concern

if you need a slightly higher sitting position could you look at a Peugeot 3008?

Nooooo, I'd rather have the X1 lol

My Aunt had one.

Not for long though.

Never seen such a cheap interior on a car over £10k... and it cost 20K !!!

Really! Didn't know they were that much!

Scrap that idea then

I assume no one can really fault a 320d can they :p unless you compare with a 330..

Wait till it snows or just gets a bit frosty. If she's fussy that 320d will be heading back to the dealers faster than you think.

Happened to my father-in-law. Every time it got cold the car was stuck in the drive.

Unless you're planning on getting winter tires.

3 series is a very good all round car but do not buy an M-sport version of any BMW. The ride is the worst of any car on the road today. The X1 is no where near as practical as a 3 series touring as the boot has a much more steeply raked rear window. The X1 is no where near the quality level of a 3 series either. Its more like a 1 series, much more scratchy hard cheap plastics on display. All BMW's are overpriced but i would definately have a 3 series again and would love an X3 but the X1 is a poor BMW product in all regards and most reviews reflect this. If you are now contemplating a 3 series then there are far cheaper options out there, thats why i came from one to an octy. It does the same job for about £12000 less. Is image really that important to you?

If money was no concern then i would have another BMW in a heartbeat but definately not an X1 and definately not an M-Sport and definately not a manual as BMW manuals are terrible.

Rather a sweeping statement Jock...Obviously your own opinion.....Have you driven ALL BMW M-Sports'?

Having driven a BMW 535D M Sport Touring to Venice and back via Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Holland, it can not or ever, be classed as a harsh ride

I would catagorically state thats it the best car Ive ever driven. not just for its performance, but comfort and ride too

definately not an M-Sport and definately not a manual as BMW manuals are terrible.

Bolleaux :D

Eh? BMW manuals are lush!

I hate them. Would never own one again. Their autos are very good however. I had a manula 330d and it was either the clutch or the gearbox but whichever one it was it was impossible to drive smoothly through the first 2 gears. Tried a mates newer 320d manual and it was the same. Its probably personal taste but its easily the owrst manual box i have used.

As for M-sports, it is pretty much widely accepted that the ride is bad on them. I owned a 3 series M-sport and a 3 series SE and the se was far superior. Mate had a 335d m-sport and it was terrible. Yes fantastic car but the ride was shocking. Have tried X5 m-sports and they were too stiff also. I think the new ones might be ok as they have adaptive suspension and can be set to a softer setting but i personally prefer the SE. I think if you buy new you can specify non m-sport suspension as a no cost option. That would be the 1st box i ticked if i bought one again.

I think generally speaking the X1 is one of the poorer BMW's on sale. It rarely gets great reviews in comparison to other BMW's in the range. The fact you can get the new 3 series with 4wd would be more tempting to me.

TBH, I suffer the same with 1st to 2nd. There is a clutch delay valve thing you're meant to be able to remove to make it better though, I think.

Mine also doesn't center properly, the gear stick doesn't spring back from the right hand side of the box as the spring has failed so you have to make an effort when going into 3rd/4th to check you don't go back into the gear you came from.

Ride wise I don't have an issue with it, either on 35 section tyres. Maybe the newer ones are harder, but it doesn't bother me in the least bit. And yes, you can remove sports as a non-cost option. (Was speccing up an M135i after watching Chris Harris' review. Good video, bad result for Audi though.)

I think the giggest culprit for the bad ride was the run flat tyres. I would only ever buy an auto BMW again though after my experiences with them. I prefer autos anyway so that is no real problem. The newer 3 series doesnt seem to be hampered with the same ride issues as the previous generation so BMW have obvioulsy been listening to the critiscism. Despite the ride issues on mine i stiull maintain they are the best engineered cars on the road if only they were cheaper but i suppose great engineering doesnt come cheap.

I cant make comment on a 3 Series

But I can comment on this: Comfortable, smooth ride, quiet, very fast, perfect driving position, economical cosidering the engine.....BMW 535D M-Sport Touring with 19" run flats
