VRS first drive woes and a new oil issue.......

Featured Replies

One thing is manufacturer's/dealer's right to be able to put the wrongs right but on the other hand to balance that out is consumer's right to have it done in a way that does not cause said customer too much hardship and within reasonable times. Now this is debatable and when arguments start when you start to pursue the rejection route. My fav profession tends to get involved at this stage and costs rocket out of control compared to the issues at hand.

If this happened to me I'd be writing letters to your dealer and SUK to tell me in writing when the car is going to be ready as it is unacceptable to have an open ended faults rectification process. Mechanical things like cars do break down etc but it is not a space shuttle and full rebuild of an engine should not take more than 5 days. Also, this is not some sort of an exotic car for which parts have to be manufactured if broken as not routinely stocked. Part of VAG with parts interchangeable between brands so back order excuse is really lame...

They just probably understaffed, too busy, somebody on annual leave etc, etc...

As far as I can sympathise with this what about sympathy for the customer as well who just spent a large chunk of money and now has to drive around in a crappy rental?

Keep us updated Andy :)

Take there offer plus the lowering sprigs fitted! :)

positive news, think they might be about to do the right thing......

....option is pretty much on the table now for an exchange! Would mean them ordering me an identical replacement whilst I drive around in mine (when it is fixed!).

Pretty impressed that they have offered this, but no favours being done here, this is what i am entitled to and I have pointed that out to them calmly and fairly. Three weeks to fix a problem on a new car from first day of ownership is pretty bad form and/or maybe they know something that I don't about my car!

Also now have the option of going for something different, so need to decide if to stick with the VRS or go for something else like an Octavia blackline.....

Decisions all over again.......

Andy.

Are Octavia blacklines still available to order? I thought all 500 had been snapped up ages ago?!

£500 cash back and 3 years servicing is nothing to be sniffed at. I wouldn't want to wait for another car.

got mine back now all fixed, will have it until my new, but same, one arrives in a couple of months.

was tempted by their offer, but after the drive shafts and gear box have been out to complete the repair i think i would rather have a new car.

enjoying it so far though

Andy

Great result that. Have fun thrashing the temporary car into the ground whilst awaiting your new beast!

Jealous! Take it to track day immediately!

Lads, some other poor bugger is going to buy that car !!!

Which is exactly why (like all cars i have owned) I am looking after it as if it was mine to keep for a long time.

Not my comments about treating the temporary car badly, I respect cars, engines and mechanicals - just a shame they don't always respect me back!

Andy

Track day wouldn't hurt, really! One can still take the car through her paces without "thrashing it" - it may do the car no end of good to have it loosened up and taken to the limits before the sale so all the gremlins have the opportunity to surface :).

After all some fun is well deserved!

Finally had definite confirmation from dealer today that they have ordered an exact replacement for me, is apparently on 'priority build' too!! (whatever that means)

Although i had to repeatedly state my case clearly and fairly without emotion, I am still impressed that they have done the right thing.

Just have to hope that my next CTHE has no oil use like my current CTHE ;-)

Andy.

Cashback and the servicing is a pretty good offer, easily equates to about £1000 back off the cost of the car in the first place. Plus you seem happy enough to drive around in your car if they ordered you a new one, so why not keep it, its got a 3 year warranty, possibly worth getting an extension on the warranty from them?

Forgive me but I thought your car went in not because of the oil drinking problem but due to faulty manufacturing and some seal not being installed correctly?

@matty

Car has 5yr warranty already, agree the deal isn't too bad, but i want a new car in new condition that i don't have to always worry about something being not quite right with the sensitive dsg gearbox. Assuming it takes a couple of months for delivery then I get a few thousands of miles of depreciation and tyres and road tax.........

@jab

no oil consumption issue, just the gearbox oil leak. My comment was that i hope that my CTHE does also not have any engine oil consumption issues i.e. my current one seems good so far.
