New Octavia VRS estate - grip?

Featured Replies

I currently have a very responsive Passat 2.0 TDi 140 that has no grip whatsoever on wet roads especially when pulling from a standing start. Additionally, going round a roundabout means very careful driving to prevent a sideways slide....

I'm waiting for delivery of an Octavia VRS estate and wonder if anyone can give me an idea of how these perform in the wet? This may be a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but any experiences would be appreciated. Those that have the hatch are also welcome to post to give me an idea of what to expect.

Thanks :rain: !

Will depend a lot on what tyres are fitted. But my diesel vRS would spin up quite easily on an uphill start out of a junction. Even in low gears traction could be an issue if really accelerating hard. But you'll fast get used to it. Although overall I thought wet weather traction was good.

What tyres are on it?

You can always try to activate XDS and then enjoy roundabouts

Another vote for it mainly being down to the tyres

Standing starts on my PD were rubbish (although I did have considerably more torque than standard) but after that, on the move, the wet grip was very good indeed. Always on premium tyres tho.

And a bit of of help from Haldex and the rear wheels. smiley-laughing025.gif

Almost certainly down to the tyres. My old Vectra diesel had some medium priced tyres on a few years back - might aswell have removed them and put ice skates on the front. Like you, I had no grip whatsoever in any wet conditions!!

Replaced them with Good years and grip improved 200% immediately!!!

Now waiting for my new Blackline Estate to run in nicely and see how it grips!! Seems very good so far though.......

Our vrs on continental sport contacts used to spin off the line but was ok in corners etc. I've fitted Goodyear F1s 90% of spin off the line has gone and its fantastic through the corners now. All in all for a decent sized estate car it handles extremely well I think you'll be pleased with it.
