Permanent battery conditioner connection

Featured Replies

Has anyone wired in a permanent batter conditioner connection to the battery in a Fabia vRS?

I'm getting sick of having to pop the bonnet everytime I want to connect the CTEK conditioner and have made up a waterproof plug connector (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Way-Electrical-Waterproof-Connector-OTHERS-AVAILABLE-/180364031563) but don't know the best place to route it so I can easily just 'plug the car in' when its in the garage...

Thanks for your help,

Dom

Looks small enough to poke through the grill in by the side of the fog lights or mount just behind the grill.

Quick question why used a battery conditioner, main reason to have one is if you don't use the vehicle for long periods of time, bikers normally use them if they layup the bike over the winter months. If you're using the VRS on a daily or weekly basis not really needed but I can see you wanting to use it on the Westfield though.

Yeah, I have one permanently connected to the Westfield too but that doesn't get out nearly as much as I'd like!! (Easy to connect though as it doesn't have a roof and I've fitted an accessory socket under the dash which is connected direct to the battery  )

I'm not using the vRS as much as I was and it can sometimes sit in the garage for 2 weeks and then the battery struggles as its being discharged by the alarm. Also I want the battery to last as long as possible and so having a conditioner connected should stop any sulphation if the voltage drops below 12.4v especially over winter...

mmm that connector does look good rwbaldwin. I was using the mated one as I had one spare but maybe its not such a good idea. (I was going to fuse it, and cover it somehow)

Thanks for yor quick responses guys!

PS I'm using the Lidl battery conditioners (only 12.99 but they have been great on the Westy   )

PPS Nice SE Karl!

Those connectors are only waterproof when mated.

This is what you need http://www.ebay.co.u...6-/130651777034

It has a waterproof cover.

The CTEK charger I've got came with one of those. It also came with a plug to go into the cigarette lighter socket.

That explains it, unfortunately in the 3 1/2 years that I've had the car it has only had 5 days off ( I was on a canal barge holiday), other than that it has never missed a day of being driven.

Thanks for the comment Dom

np J. Westfield Speedsport with a zetec engine and Jenveys. I've just fitted an aeroscreen and new FPR, I'm always tweaking bits can't leave it alone! I notice your in Dudley so just round the corner from the factory ;-)

The Westy and vRS are perfect combination. One a bit mental and the other solidly reliable but still quick where it matters. I can't see myself ever getting rid of the vRS had it for nearly 10 now and its been no trouble at all.

You can see the conditioner connected here, I was thinking maybe someone on here had routed the wires somewhere clever in the vRS engine bay allowing easy connection with the bonnet shut. (or maybe even routed inside the car so can plug in through the window...? I'm going to investigate the fog light area and grille. Obviously want it to be pretty invisible and not prone to water.
