Been on this forum for a while now and read regularly but haven't seen much about rear brake upgrades... done a search and read through a few topics but only people having problems.

Anyway, im after doing a few brake upgrades but dont know what my options are.

I've had a look on eBay and seen these...

From what I have read rear brakes from 4wd setups do not fit?

The FWD 256's are what I have. Do you currently have rear discs? (You don't have a vrs do you?)

I typed in make offer of £270 to make it a straight £300 with p&p and thought "hmm, maybe make a post on the forum and check!"

Glad i have now, will see what other people say but thanks for the post.

When i read the listing and it saying it fits most other vag cars etc... mine would be fine.

So you have the vented discs and pads i have posted in the second link?

Yeah im currently in a vrs with a differnt body on it

The carriers on the 4wd are different to 2wd

I have upgraded rear

Payed 90 for full kit

Thought as much then, will try and get fwd ones.

Any pictures of before and after through the wheel to see the size difference in them?

Im thinking they make little difference tbh just look pretty, but i've got a feeling one of my calipers are knackard anyway so might aswell upgrade.

tbf mate in all honestly iv got stock fronts i can not tell difference but the other day in wet back wet steeped out under braking

but i put that down to the tyres

unfortunately i dont think i have before and afters

to be honest unless u can get them at the right price i wouldn't bother i had £100 notes i had to spend so i thought stuff it on my car on sumat and saw them

pureley cosmetic imo

I'll be doing the front 312 upgrade in a week or two. Shame really since the discs and pads on the front look quite new anyway.

Quick question, does the handbrake mechanism from the stock calipers work on the upgraded ones?

I can get calipers and carriers but they dont come with any handbrake parts.

With upgrade on back from octavia is there any modification needed?

Handbrake works fine. I cant find any pictures I took when I done them. No mods are needed, except either removing (which I did) or adjusting the holes for the splash guard.

Brilliant thanks, will look into it and see how much to spend. I've free'd off my caliper this morning so not really needed anymore, also ordering the ford galaxy caliper springs tomorrow to help the handbrake release off which was my original problem anyway!

Think im going to upgrade then as the sticking handbrake due to caliper sticking made it fail mot. Luckily it was a nice bloke and he cleaned and reset it so it works for now and he passed the car.

Thats the same for me, I had to free up my handbrake mechanism this morning, i only noticed when the N/S/R caliper started smoking and used to stink of burning brakes.... also the wheel used to get very hot so all the symptoms really.

I've bought the 256 discs, pads, calipers & carriers now so should be everything i need. For the price i paid it seems well worth it imo. Im suprised more people dont do the modification tbh... the rear discs look tiny behind my 17" alloys!

If its going to cost me £80 for one new caliper, bearing in mind i'd also need to buy new discs and pads since the heat has knackard one side of my current ones... it's proven cheaper for me to upgrade to the bigger brakes. I'll take plenty of pictures and make a guide since i couldnt find one.

Same situation with the rears, had a knackard caliper so just went for the upgrade. The fronts I just love how fat the brembos look so got them too lol.

I'd appreciate a guide, I've got the same problem of sticky calipers, in my case I have the return springs on but they don't do it. I bought the weaker Sharan parts but now wish I'd gone for the stronger Golf Mk4 ones (some people on the sticky thread reckoned they were too strong, but they probably would have helped in my case). In any case, I now have 256mm calipers, carriers and discs. Unfortunately they're currently improving the stopping power of my shed because I haven't got round to fitting them yet...

I was going to order ford galaxy ones but if you know of a better choice i'd get them insted.

Yeah i think galaxy and sharan use the same springs but with gac saying the sharan return springs are weaker....

If ones from audi or a golf etc are stronger i can order whichever ones. Skoda, Ford, Audi & VW are all 2 - 3 minutes drive apart...

I had 312's before, now I have 323 brembo setup from a Leon cupra r.
