Rear brake upgrades

Like the sound of that! Mind me asking how much they set you back?

Yeah i think galaxy and sharan use the same springs but with gac saying the sharan return springs are weaker....

If ones from audi or a golf etc are stronger i can order whichever ones. Skoda, Ford, Audi & VW are all 2 - 3 minutes drive apart...

Which springs am i best off getting?

From what I remember, the Galaxy and Sharan (7M) springs are the same (weaker) type. There's an equivalent 1J part number from the Golf/A3 chassis which people had said were stronger (i.e. more forceful, took more effort to pull on the handbrake so should do a better job of forcing the caliper off when you release the handbrake).

All the part numbers and peoples experiences are in the thread linked from the sticky at the top of Fabia I.

Not sure what my springs are off tbh just took the part numbers off that thread and saved them on my phone

So going to skoda thia morning and asking for...

Caliper return spring.

7HO 615 295 N/S

Went to Skoda and asked for the above, 7HO 615 295 & 7HO 615 296. The guy came back saying the part numbers didn't match up to anything. He wanted a reg number for a car but couldn't give him one because i dont know which Skoda cars came fitted with the return springs... the thought crossed my mind to have a quick lie under one of the display cars in the showroom and check but... just no.

He also mentiond none of the parts are sold seperatly for the calipers so i wouldnt be able to get the springs, i said no problem i'll go to ford then, Thanks...

Went to ford who were much more helpful and knew the problem straight away when i said ford galaxy return springs!

i got a reg from google on the way to ford, gave him that, confirmed the part i wanted by showing me a diagram of all the rear caliper parts. Cost on the other hand wasnt very impressive! £5.10 + vat per spring!

The part number i have is... 1002450 and 1002452.

will collect them tomorrow and see what happens then. If this fails i'll be heading to a scrap yard and pull some off a car i can see with them fitted, Chances are i'll get them for free anyway!

You sure the part numbers are 7H? That's a Transporter chassis according to Ross-Tech, I think you might be getting confused with 7M which is the VW Sharan. My local TPS did me some 7M ones no problem. Sounds like your problem is because you were in a Skoda dealer, they probably couldn't access the 7H numbers as they're VW (ditto the 7M), I've had problems ordering stuff from SEAT in the past because they were non-SEAT parts. Go to TPS, they're the supplier for the whole group so they can sell you pretty much anything from across the range.

I was tempted to go to tps, i've used them quite alot in the past and get the parts deliverd to work, but as im fitting the 256mm rear brake upgrade tomorrow i sort of wanted to fit the springs at the same time to give me a good feel on the handbrake.

Thanks for the advice anyway, could be the sourse of my problem.

All i done was look on the handbrake problem thread thats been stickied, coppied and pasted every part number i seen people mention and then check them all, they all seem to be the same so asked for that.

My notes:

7H0 615 295 l/h spring

7H0 615 296 r/h spring

----------------

£1-73 each plus VAT. Total for 2= £4-14p

--------------------

is 7H0 615 295 and 7H0 615 296 Total price inc VAT was £3.91

-----------------

Anyway, I ordered

7HO 615 295A (near side)

7HO 615 296 (off side)

------

Just rang tps and orderd some, The part numbers i used 7HO 615 295A & 7HO 615 296 Were off a Van and came to £15 each, after speaking to the guy on the phone we managed to get the correct return springs from a vw golf? and they came to £4.30 for the pair deliverd... so will find out if they are the correct ones on wednesday.

Thanks for the help and advice everyone :)

Golf ones will be 1J0 615 295/296 for a guess? They should fit fine, and be nice and firm (from what I've read anyway).

I didnt get exact numbers but he did say it sounds like the correct part still ending in 295, all sounds possitive! Getting them both deliverd for less than one of fords collected!

I've also read the golf and a3 ones are firmer than the galaxy and sharan ones. Im hoping having these fitted with two pretty much new calipers the handbrake should be nice and smooth!

From what I've seen (although I don't know how "official" it is) the first two characters are for the chassis type, the rest are for the part. So 1J0 615 295 will do the same job as 7H0 615 295 (left hand spring) even though they may look totally different physically, IYSWIM. I think it follows through most of the VAG catalogue, xx0 615 295 will always be a handbrake spring with the x's replaced for your chassis type.

I thought sharan springs where 7W0 and the stronger of the 2 and audi a3 was starting in 1K0 and was weaker according to other sites.

Either way im sure any of the springs will be fine, orderd them both now for the cost of just iver £4 deliverd so cant complain.

Yer something has to be better than nothing. Did you buy the ebay ones or others?

Edit- just seen you got them from tps. I will order mine shortly.

I've got (orderd) the springs from TPS and got the 256 rear brakes from eBay, bought them last night and collected them today. Heres some pics!

Discs, Calipers, Carriers, pads, sliders etc... everything needed for the upgrade. Cost £105.

Calipers seem pretty new or refurbed, new rubbers etc...

Discs look almost brand new also, no lip on the edge at all and still plenty of life in them yet. They are the Lucas calipers, The pads are also new and are stamped with VW AB pads?

Got a few other bits and pieces when i collected them, new sliders for the pads, new caliper bolts, grease etc... all boxed in VW box's. Pic of the other bits and bobs in bags.
