Iphone 5 vs Samsung galaxy s3

Featured Replies

Hi all . Im undissided on what phone to get . At the moment im in the dark ages with a iphone 3gs . I do like the iphone 5 but its way to much £46 a month !! So at the moment im edging towards a galaxy s3 as i can get one for half the price a month compared to the iphone 5 !

When i got my iphone my partner had the first galaxy s and i couldnt get on with , Just didnt seam as good as the iphone , set out etc , so thats making me in two minds weather to get the s3 because of the first galaxy

Another thing thats making me more towards the iphone is mine at the moment is jailbroken and ive heard/read you can root them . Has anyone done this ?

Any help i would be grateful . Has anyone got an iphone 5 ? What are they like compared to the older 4s ? or has anyone had both and like one more then the other ? What do they think is better ?

Thanks

You may not be interested, but if you're looking at high-end phones, don't dismiss this: http://www.google.co.uk/nexus/4/

Out guns them both (on paper at any rate), and undercuts them on price too.

I've used an S3, and it is a nice phone, as is the design of the iPhone 5, but I found it a bit too tall.

I've got an s3 and SWMBO has an iPhone 5. I'd go and try both in a shop, what I will say is the build quality of the iPhone 5 is very good, much better than previous models and I'd say better than the s3. However IMO the screen is better on the s3 and I prefer the interface.

I don't really see much difference to the 4, other than the length of the thing. You also find if an app hasn't been tweaked for the 5 it cuts the top off

iv knot got a smart fone, so i cant rilly help; but my sun is not geting a knew ifone when his currant won dyes, he thinks a Samsung Note 2 is the wey phorward.

I'm the first one to correct my children on bad spelling and grammar, but I don't do it it on an online forum. What if, for example, the poster you are correcting has severe dyslexia and fnds it hard to communicate in the written form. Not saying they do, but online you just don't know.

Nexus 4 is cheaper than the S3, however it doesn't really outgun it on anything other than the processor. Less capacity, less expandability, similar camera, similar if not better battery life on the S3.

I am also running on an older iPhone, 4 year old 3g. But think I will wait until the UK has sorted out the LTE (4G) bandwidths, should be done by May/June next year. No point in buying a phone that has to last at a few years and it not being able to use the new services as they come on stream.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3

Superb phone in all respects

The post is a mix of wrong AND miss- spellings, the dyslexics I know all understand they have a problem, and use a browser with built in spell-check; even I carefully re-read what I have written to make sure I have used the correct word before posting, and if I miss one, I will go back and correct it ASAP.

If you what say was true, the UK would be suffering from a MASSIVE influx of sufferers, as a large proportion of new members to ALL of the forums I read seem incapable of creating readable text, or understanding that - just because it has been auto-corrected by the spell-check DOES NOT MEAN IT IS THE RIGHT WORD.

Just bought an S3 in white, got Phones 4U to match 80 quid cashback deal that Topcashback were offering if you went via their site to Phones 4 U. Will report back once I've been using it a few weeks, but don't see how iPhone 5 justifies the extra cash (and don't get me started on 4G!).

What's all this about ?

I've recently jumped from a 3GS to an iPhone 5, and I've got to say the 5 is so much slicker and faster to use.

The camera is miles in front of the 3GS, and the battery life is loads better.

But it's nothing like life changing, I only went for the 5 because for the 2yrs I've had the 3GS it's always done what I wanted and done a really good job of it.

The 5 is like I say basically the same, but better in every way.

I did think about going for the S3, but just like the simplicity of the iPhone. And didn't want really to go for android, it's completely up to you at the end of the day mate.

But when i thought about spending next 2yrs with a phone I knew I would be able to enjoy and use with ease, or switch to a one that was unknown to me it wasn't a hard choice.

If you what say was true

I carefully re-read what I have written

Sorry, Couldn't resist :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Anyway, back on topic...

I have just ordered a Galaxy S3 after four years of iPhone ownership.

I never thought I would switch brands, as I am a staunch Apple lover, but my wife got the iPhone 5 last week and to be honest I wasn't blown away.

Yes, its technically a better phone all round than it's predecessor, and thinner with a bigger screen etc. and I suppose if you have never had an iPhone then the 5 would seem fantastic, but coming from a 4, its just a bit too similar

I fancied a change, and after having a go on a mate's S3, it made my mind up!

Get it tomorrow, can't wait :)

:wall: How did I miss that one :wall: (it had been a long day - OK??)

Anyway, this thread must have been going for ages and ages, there are already credible rumours about the launch date for the iPhone 5s!!!!

Seriously, my son and his GF have been avid fanbois for years; wasting their money every few months as their damned iphones broke. Then last month "she" had a wavy brain moment and got a SIII; within a week he had decided to replace his latest (already broken) 4s with a Samsung Galaxy Note II.

To be fair, I will state now that not ALL of the broken phones were from the crappy build quality, you cannot blame the phone if it has been dropped on a race track and run over!!! But a common theme over the past few years has been him unable to take calls because the microphone had packed up (THREE DIFFERENT 4 & 4s phones), or the phone stubbornly refusing to admit someone was trying to call it; even when said person was sat in the same room!!

The only non user breakage I have ever suffered was a cracked screen - possibly from temperature/pressure changes while skiing down a mountain (I crashed and punctured my arse that trip, but the phone was fine at that point).

I've got a 5, having had a 4 and 4s. It's much faster and slicker, multitasking is so much faster and efficient. Lovely phone to use and hold. Battery is slightly better. Much better all round phone. Love it. Sometimes I wouldn't mind an s3 but having had the s1 I hated it. That's not to say the s3 isn't better than the s1 I'm sure it is, but the lack of good apps and sheer amount of **** on the android market puts me off ever having one. Which is a shame as the Samsung is a great bit of hardware.

App stores are reasonably comparable now. At least on high profile apps.

I have ended up with all versions of iPhone from 3GS onwards.

I prefer the lightness and build quality of the 5 over the 4 & 4S.

Most apps that I use now have been updated to take advantage of the slightly longer screen.

The 5 I find much faster than the 4s. And I currently have LTE beside EE at the top of the screen.

I find the S3 too big for me. I have an iPad as well, so don't need the extra extra large screen.

Anybody heard a rumour about being able to remotely wipe the S3 with an email or text? And I don't mean from the owner if they have lost it.

Weird; EVERY independent test of the 5 says the battery performance is slightly worse than the 4s (and doesnt hold a candle to the S3 which lasts about 3 times as long).

And remember, I dont own any of the three phones, so I am not biased in any way.

S3 looks plastic and crap. 12months down the line nobody will remember the s3 it will be another forgotten phone. 12 months down the line the iphone 5 will still be worth £350 and look good

Mine isnt plastic and crap

Its a very nice slim functional phone with great features, a fast dual core processor and does far more than I will ever need

Love it

It really comes down to your own personal choice on this one. Before i got my 3GS over three years ago i had alsways been a Nokia man and it was only after having a play about on others iphones i decided i liked the UI so took the jump over to Apple. Now bearing in mind i never ever ever used to have a phone for more than 12 months, (Bit like a mobile phone version of Damo really!!!), it says something that my trusty 3GS has seen solid use for over 3 years and without a single issue or fault, (It's even been dropped a few times too!!!). It's finally going to hand over the baton tomorrow afternoon to today's UPS delivery of a new iPhone 5. I've had a play about with android phones over the years and i persoanlly cant get along with them and still prefer the iPhone and it's UI. Also in the case of this particular comparison the iPhone 5 is about as large as i'd like a phone to be and the S3 is just tooooo big for me. If i wanted an ipad mini in my pocket i'd have bought one. ;)

Resale value is also worth considering.... If i sell my near mint 3GS i should hopefully still get around £100 which isn't too bad for a phone of its age. I just searched galaxy S2 and iPhone 4S used and unlocked on ebay, (Launched a few months apart), and most of the auctions just about to end were in the region of £150-200 for the Galaxy S2's and around £300-350 for the iPhone 4S's.

I'm not saying i'm an apple fanboy or that i'll always stay with Apple maybe when i replace the 5 it'll be for a move to a windows mobile or maybe even android.....

As for reliability issue with iphones.... including myself i know around 17 friends who have them and out of them i know of only 3 who have had technical issues with them (And not accidental damage issues)

Also £46 seems a lot per month.... Surely you could get a better deal if you shopped around???

I've ditched the contract route this time for the first time and have bought the phone sim free from Apple so as to keep my £15 a month all you can eat data rolling 30 day sim only deal.

Cheers

Dave.

Genuinely surprised by this - over the course of my contract, my S2 will cost me £144 (based on the difference between the SIM free contract price I was on and the price I'm paying)!

Not that I intend to sell it - great phone :D

Yeah... The iphone5 is sooooo small :giggle:

Seriously though, the iphone5 is a good phone, but not much different to every other incarnation there has ever been.

As i said that's fine, and if you have never owned one then it would seem amazing, but I have had one for the last 4-5 years and its just more of the same.

Going to try the S3 anyway (which I just took delivery of), and if I can't get on with it the wife says she will swap her iphone5 for it as she's not bothered which she has...

Win win :D

Cheers

Damo
