Tyre Swap on VRS SE

Featured Replies

Changed my Toyo 888's to T1R's for the winter at the weekend but they seem to be unbelievably slippery - I was expecting more grip in the wet. I am hoping it is either because they are pumped to high or it is just the new surface on the tyre.

I used to have T1R's on my Mini and thought they were good, but I guess it didnt have 430lb/ft to cope with !!!

T1R? You sure? T1R's a summer tyre isn't it? Get some winter tyres if you want winter tyres.

My t1rs weren't very good in the wet and I certainly wouldn't call them a winter tyre. Possibly less scary than 888s in the wet but not much of a step up. What pressures are they at?

As above, poor in the wet. You just have to learn to control your right foot now ha

Yes I guess they are not really winter tyres, thought they would be much better that the 888's though - will just have to get used to them - good fun though !!

T1r's are **** IMHO. Wear down too fast, not great in the wet or dry.

I didn't find them too bad in the wet, when new. Being soft I thought they coped adequately in the cold too. It was the GY GSD3s which were absolutely useless in the cold.

A few years ago everybody used to rave how good Toyos were in the wet and dry, and that's why I bought them. However nowadays it's Rainsports that get rave reviews, not T1-Rs. In our size T-1Rs are actually graded 'E' for the wet (F being worst) and 'G' for Rolling Resistance.

However I'm still not sure who/what decides on these gradings.

Were those tyres brand new and were slippery?

It might be the release agent that helps removal from the mould, that is causing this. It should wear off in 100 or so miles.

You may be right but I will see how it goes - to be fair I have only just worn off the stickers - may improve when the surface has worn off.

I thought they would have been a good tyre as the 888's are amazing (in the dry obviously!!)

Perhaps this is why they were cheap!!

Totally agree. When I got the car last year, these were already on, and wasn't prepared for them to be so awful in the wet.....and they wore down very quickly...

Had T1-R's on both my 16's and 17's and never had issues in the wet or dry and they didn't wear quickly either.

I find T1Rs very good in the wet - certainly on my 2004vRS much better than the Michelins on the car when I bought it new.
