Throttle body clean and reset

Featured Replies

I have used the search and seen the guides but some people say use vagcom to reset it after a clean and others say they set themselfs. Also do u have to unplug it to reset it? Cheers

You dont need to reset it. Leave it plugged in whilst cleaning. Careful actuation of the pedal with ignition on and carb cleaner and a very light brushing action around the butterfly.

Thats it.

If you do want to remove it, do not turn the ignition on with it unplugged. You can quite happily remove it altogether to clean, just don't switch the ignition on. Honestly you really don't need to reset, since it will learn anyway. You probably won't even notice any difference in the cycling. You may notice a different idle speed for a little while once started but that's about it.

Remove, clean, re-fit, switch ignition on, wait till everything has settled down and stopped whirring, and THEN start the engine.

Don't forget the gasket. Not very often you damage them, but why would you want to reuse something so cheap anyway. ;)

Don't force the butterfly against it's end stops though. Remember it is a servo, not just a butterfly. Brake cleaner works pretty well, btw. Just make sure you dry it well before refitting, as you don't really want brake cleaner vapours in the inlet. :D

Cheers for the info. Ill just keep it plugged in and clean it. Goin to do it wif my 1.8t mk4 golf.

Looking at doing this soon, are the gaskets easy enough to get hold of? can any factors sort one out or it is just as easy to pop to a skoda dealer (I have one of each either side of my work)

£2 from any dealer or TPS. Motor factors youll struggle.

I got mine from eBay mate. Genuine skoda one. As no stealers within 20 miles of me.

Sent from my phone, using my thumb.
