Not Dipping

Featured Replies

Hi. I have wondered why occasionally drivers flash me despite my headlights being dipped. It now seems that my right hand headlight sometimes does not dip and it takes a few flashes using the stalk to remind it that it should be dipped. I am wondering what might be failing.

It sounds like a sticking relay, though I don't know if theres a separate relay for each bulb.

Which model? Mine has separate lights for dip and full.

I've just had a look at some circuit diagrams, and some models use a little flap with a magnet to activate main beam. Basically the magnet moves the flap out of the way, and a spring pulls it back. The flap cuts off some of the beam, giving dip.

If yours is one of these (You should hear a mechanical clunk from the lamp units when switching) then a sticking flap / broken spring would do exactly what you are saying. I can't see any other way one light could be dipped and the other not.

If you can confirm what type of headlamps, and the model year, it would help to check I'm looking at the right circuits.

Wow! I love this forum. Its a 2008 Roomster 3 and there is a really obvious clonk from the lights when it switches. I can hear it standing by the driver's door. I will do some proper listening tests later when there are two of us.

Well if there's a clunk, it must be that type. I have no idea whether ther's anything you can fix / lubricate, or whether it's sealed. I'll have another look for more info tonight, though. It might be worth searching the furby section to see if anyone has seen the problem and fixed it.

Definitely a louder clunk from the headlamp that dips properly. But seems to be right inside the unit so hard to work out what it's actually happening. Also a click from the area above the fuse box. As the relays are probably easier to get at am now wondering if there is one or two relays.
