Throttle position of 3.6 FSI

Featured Replies

I was playing around with the VCDS and logging some data when I noticed a stange thing. When I press the throttle to a floor the throttle position sensor says that it's only 88,2%. Kick-down has no affect to these figures. When the engine is idling it's about 15%.

Is this normal with 3.6 FSI? Does everyone have similar numbers? It's very easy to check if you have a VCDS. Just check the OBD-parameters and give it a full throttle. There's no need to start the engine if you don't want.

Have a look:

Yep normal, the numbers are slightly different for all cars.

When the TPS adaptation is performed, it reads the full and off positions and then maps them onto a 0-100% curve.

There are actually two TPS, and they are both read. When one fails the other is substituted.

Here is the relevant page in the self study guide. It's actually talking about the A4 platform (i.e. MKV Golf) but the A5 and newer platforms are more or less the same, except they have the accelerator pedal of a bus (the tall thin one hinged at the bottom.)
