symphony cd unit, gone to 'safe' mode and will not unlock

Featured Replies

Hi,

Sorry for the long post.

I have found some topics but no answer.

Car 2007 fabia estate 1. ice unit is Symphony cd, serial number type skzaz9f **********. It is original to the car, the manual for the radio shows the same serial number as the one on the unit and has the security code, all properly printed.

Problem; On Friday my wife started the car & 'safe' came up on the radio display then 1000. ( no flat battery or disconnection)

After pressing channel buttons the radio did not come back so she reported the problem to me.

Still in 'safe' mode when I turned it on again so I followed the procedure in the manual to enter the security code, I was able to scroll through the digits and enter the code, pressed the 'play' button and... unit still defaulted to 'safe' then 1000 but this locked me out, After a coule of hours it let me in but still rejects the code. Have tried several times with no sucess, have also disconnected the battery for a couple of hours in the hope that the ECU would find the radio but it is still stuck in 'safe' mode.

Any more ideas please, this does not seem to be an uncommon fault? Can the radio lose it's coding? Is the printed code likley to be incorrect? It seems that I can only get the code checked at a main dealers?

Also, if the unit is duff & I replace it with another one ( with it's own code) will the car ECU accept it or is this going to be another problem?

It is too quiet in the car!

Thanks

I thought they spoke to the car and paired automatically after a few minutes.

Both of my symphony units did this in both my old Fabias.

Where have you got the radio code from? and also if you do decide to get another gen radio you will need a new code for that radio but it will work fine.

code is on a printed slip showing the serial number and code which is stuck inside the radio manual that came with the car, serial number on the radio, in 2 places , matches the number in in the manual.

I will try getting the code checked out at the local main dealer to see if they come back with the same one. I hope it will be a free service?

Why would the radio lose it's coding tho. Is there a maximum number of times the code can be tried before the radio completely locks up?

Reassuring to know that I can change the radio for another and the car will accept it. Although without the code, a second hand radio would not be much use?

We've had it before were its just gone into safe mode and just wont come out. Where i work we just do it for free. What happens is if the codes put in wrong once, your allowed to try again and then if you put it in wrong again it usually locks you out for a while but on the third attempt i think its something stupid like a few hours. if you give the dealer a call they could do it over the phone if you have the serial number because the code is retrieved the internet on VWG website called ELSA.

Took car to a main dealer, they checked the code I had was correct. They also tried entering the code but it is still rejected. Today I have taken the radio to an audio shop to see if it can be recoded.

Sorry can't help with the thread as only owned my Fabia 1 for less than a month.

Although it has brought to my attention how many codes I'm missing for my car.

Didn't have the key code, although an auto locksmith worked it out for me.

Don't have the stereo code - how much did the main dealer charge for this, and is there anywhere else the code would be stored ???

Any other codes / useful bits of info I could be missing ??

Also while surfing Briskoda I found this interesting post in Replacing a Battery:

Might be worth a go

Hi , Took my V5 and radio. Serial number . Carrs of. Bridgwater did not charge for this.

My car came with a plastic. Key fob thing which opened to show the key code and 2 other sets of numbers. Also in car was radio handbook. With a sticker inside giving the serial number and code. You could try contacting past owners to see if they have, them still ?

As daft as this may sound, you don't have any kids that might wonder what a 2p plays or something do you?

Yeah also disconnecting the battery sometimes for a while just triggers it into action.

What do you mean the code for your key?The only time you would ever need that is if your key loses its coding, but in that case it just needs re-coding and we do all of that online and dont normally use a manual code.

Hi, Itook the radio to a repair shop. It is somthingon the circuit board, recoding did not work, radio won't accept a code. Time to replace it I am afraid as repair will be more than the cost of repairs. Pays to look on the net for harness adaptor, and aerial power adaptori.

Best prices seem to be from ' Liquid ice ' on e bay. Radio facial adaptor best from Skoda though.

The end of this story, unless someoneknows better.

I would go with a aftermarket kit because its just not worth all the hassle in my eyes. The money you would end up spending you could go to any ebay store or even a halfords and get something a lot better with Ipod kits and bluetooth for more than likely half the price of a genuine replacement radio.

Where do you work please? Radio locked out after a clutch change and wouldn't accept the code printed inside the plastic key thing. Different code printed in the radio manual, not been able to try that yet as it's been locked out for over an hour.

Yes, you really have to leave it on for a ridiculous amount of time. It's harder than you think as every time you start or stop the engine the radio switches off and resets the timer. Took three weeks until the car went on a long enough run to reset the radio. Right code put in - no problems now.

I realise this thread is rather old now but I just wanted to report the exact same problem.  Following a dead battery / jumpstart scenario my radio - 2007 (old) model Fabia - required the code to be entered but simply won't accept it.  It's the right code, on the sticker in the radio instruction booklet and the local dealership has double-checked it's the correct code.  Not impressed I must say but if the same thing happens to anyone else - no, you're not going mad.
