lack of bhp

Featured Replies

I have just had my ocrty RS remapped and was wondering if any body would know why after the remap the bhp would stay the same but the torque has shot up to 250lbs? The remap is supposed to take the bhp up to or there abouts 212bhp.I have been told that its maybe the airflow meter thats not working, but surely there would be some increase in bhp.

does anybody have aqny ideas?

have you done anything else to your car?? if not then 250lbft is a bit high 225 maybe

had it on the rolling road yesterday and it came out at 249.7lbs but only 180 bhp !!

bhp = torque = bhp

Torque is what is measured on a RR - bhp is derived. Try reading this article. The inference is that the RR you had your car measured on was suspect.

true, but surley if its a standard remap there should be some increase in bhp, even if its just a smidge!!

pretty much everyone else's 1.8T produces a bit more torque than power, normally around 10%ish depending on what you've done

when mine was RR'd after having work done i got 256lbft on 95 ron fuel, thats with a CAI, FMIC, boost controller and few pipes being changed. so if you had nothing but a re-map then it sounds like it was over reading

btw it also made 226bhp

Was it rollered before you did the change?

Rolling roads are only to be trusted if you roll it before and after. There are a lot of factors that can change the results. If your oem car was only reading 160 then there is a potential problem...my guess is the ecu should be reporting some errors or some sensors are passing values causing the ecu to hold back.

For example a dodgy maf will really hold back the engine as the ecu won't think it's getting much air etc etc.

Talk to the people who did the map and the rolling operator. Or specifiy the details here.

Not all maps are equal, one I had when I brought this car was very poor compared to the two subsquent ones.

no wasnt rolled before but i had a few probs when i went to have it remapped,an ecu piggy gack chip was found so he had to remap it twice. Its having the airflow meter changed tomorrow(i hope) and will see how that effects the drive.Have spoke to the remap guy and he's never heard of any car not gaining something even if its just a wee bit!!! so i'm a bit lost.

as Nick says here, a rolling road will only provide a torque output, the BHP is then calculated to suit.

sounds like the RR you took the car to isnt quite right some how.

umm

Missing the point I fear...if your starting point was 160 then you have gained.

That said depending on the map and depending on what parameters and tables are edited might be very easily effected by faulty or duff sensor data.

Does it feel quicker, might be a RR issue and MAF?

Which remap did you have applied to your car? Was it a custom map or a "Superchip" ?

when i got the car i thought it was stock,so driving around i didnt know there was anything wrong...at first!

The car started to feel a bit lurchy and often lacking power....ie when i was accelerating in first i would be up at five thousand revs and only doing twenty miles per hour. The garage couldnt find anything wrong.

I decided to get it remapped and took to an upsolute technician, who found a superchip piggyback chip. After the car was remapped to standard then remapped for performance upgrade, the only difference was that the car was alot smoother. The guy who did the rolling road also thought it was strange that the figures showed huge torque gains but no bhp gains. He suggested the airflow meter was bust, as this seems to be the case in 99 times out of 100 for him when people dont get the gains they had hoped for.he also said that if the airflow meter was fixed it would probably only gain about ten more bhp.

I suspect that if the airflow meter was faulty, the guy who did the remap would/should have spotted it fairly easily.

power wouldn't affect the speed you do at a given rpm in a given gear

have the airflow meter replaced now.....only problem is that the map is now completly out!!! its not kicking in until four thousand revs:( were as it came in at two thousand all the way up to four thousand.guy says he will remap it all over again, but just means more time in the shop!!

k:)

certainly sounds like it was faulty before, good luck with the re-re-map
