1.6 tdi specification differences

Featured Replies

Hi,

considering a 1.6tdi Monte for the wife, but notice they come in different power outputs.

Have been doing some reading around, and it seems that regardless of base power, they all remap to around 138bhp (ish)

So does anyone know if there's any major spec differences (brakes etc) between a 75bhp car and a 105bhp car ?

I'm obviously thinking of mapping initially and dumping the DPF later, so would a 75BHP monte be the most logical starting point?

any input welcome :)

I think this was asked a few weeks back and they guy couldnt find any difference on engine spec so thought it is just a different map.

But

I cant say if its just a different map tho, so might be worth doing a bit more digging about

Only cars over 100PS get rear disc brakes, IIRC - and if going to play with remaps, might be a sensible starting point?

I thought it was only the vRS that got rear discs in the UK?

....Oh and sorry back on topic, don't think the 1.6 TDi's differ at all mechanically just different map. Still personally I wouldn't look at anything other than the 105ps model......I'd actually say the 1.2 TSi is the better punt, apart from the MPG

Interesting, why do you say that please ?

I'm missing some disc brakes then 'cos i have the 105 1.6tdi and i have drums :(

Don't let this put you off though, the brakes are still pretty good. And as pointed out above, it sounds like you'll need a Vrs to get rear discs

1.2 TSi 105 is quicker with overall (in my opinion) better power delivery. Diesel is a wise choice if you are doing lots of miles and require strong economy but otherwise I'd take the TSi every time.

For the record I've had a couple of 2.0 TDi 140 MK6 Golfs and other than being reasonably refined was dull and performed real world nothing like the figures suggested; poor throttle response; immense turbo lag below 1500rpm, lack of low end go and inability to pull at low engine speeds; power still tailed off after 4k, much preferred the PD engined cars I'd had in the past despite being noisy and unrefined by comparison.

Ooops - my bad. I'd read it somewhere yet just looked at the brochure and its vRS and Greenline only for rear discs.

Found it - on the Seat Ibiza, you get rear discs on anything over 100PS...

That is quite strange. Here in Sweden every Fabia has discs at the rear, except the ambition HTP 70hp but it is not sold in Sweden anyway..

Got to love the consistency of the same basic car across different models and countries....

I have the 105 TDI Monte and it definitely has drums.

I have a 1.6TDI Elegance in the 75bhp version and yep it has drums, i am going to wait another year for my warranty to run out then have it remapped (and maybe the DPF removed). Its fine for now but i do notice the power difference between my wifes Mk1 1.9PD TDI Elegance and mine, i have had the 1.9 remapped which of course will also add to the difference, i think its around the 130bhp mark now, which means it really does surprise some other drivers (especially being in beige !). I expect my new one to map about the same as the 1.9PD, But as said will not be getting it done until out of warranty (just to be safe).

Its the only thing I dont like about the Monte, the rear drums! spoil the whole look imo. I would like to convert it to discs if it's possible? not made any enquires yet though.

I'm guessing rear axles from a vrs (breakers) would do the trick. Probably go for vrs front too for balance.

Maybe a bit much just for the look though. :)
