Fred. Now with kickass pipework! [VIDEO INCLUDED]

Featured Replies

I kid you not. Our Octy has a name. Cardinal rule of car ownership broken.

It seems that after having a Fabia MPI that was nicknamed jewel because the last letters on the plate were JWL... We went from that to a car with FD in it's plate and our little boy came up with 'Fred' and so it stuck.

So. Pictures to come (no beginning pictures but it was pretty bad!).

Beginning status:

202k miles. Due a cambelt change.

Indicator stalk had a fault turning left.

Stereo and speakers were shot.

Drivers seat bolster was shot, as were the back seats.

Electric window control in the drivers door was shot.

Drivers seatbelt was frayed.

Tatty bodywork, with a HIDEOUS crushed sill that i've yet to work out how to fix.

A gearbox that wouldn't go into reverse. In fact I bought the car on the basis that it would potentially need another 'box for £150 - filled in the transfer slip for the V5... And proceeded to do a selector cable adjust on their driveway at which point I backed it off their drive and left!

Things done so far...

Cambelt changed.

Full service.

EGR blanking off completed.

Cleaned out EGR and intake manifold.

Snow screen removal on intake snorkel

Replaced headlight bulbs with nightbreakers

Replaced sidelights with LED bulbs

Replaced seats with Bora Sport seats

A 'Maplin remap' aka the Cage Mod

Replaced stereo with a panasonic stereo I had lying around (4x50w - Powherrrrrr!)

Replaced speakers with Alpine SXE 1725S and SXE 1325S (front and rear)

HFLO-X injectors installed (as of today!) - had to be tuned down severely until everything else is in place to tune it but they're awesome.

Stubby aerial installed

Uprated Pagid Blue pads installed along with new discs

Vent Arch mod.

Elephant hose mod

Replaced wiper linkage mechanism

Fitted winters lol

EGR delete pipe (EGR stealth pipe. Win!)

Replace Intercooler Pipes (1.8T lower intercooler pipe, and custom upper intercooler pipe)

Replace the exhaust with a mufflerectomy and pikey de-cat

To do:

Drop it.

Replace TIP (Think a custom Old-man intake pipe will have to be made)

Polybush the front and rear axles and dogbone

short shifter mod

Brace up the subframe and the struts

Fix the bodywork

Apply bought headlight tint

tint the windows

Tidy up the engine bay

Fit a manual boost controller for safety, and a boost gauge as I suspect i'll need it down the line ;)

Play around with some electrics (my forte!)

I'll get some pics up when I can.

Any questions? You know where I am ;)

This will be interesting and yes lots of piccies please lol

Good luck :)

I may have to do one better than a piccy tomorrow all being well! ;)

Has it actually done that mileage?

I thought when you got it the tyres were the wrong size causing it to be out by quite a margin?

  • Author

Actually - good point! I forgot about that!

The tyres were one profile too small on the front wheels for the duration of its existence... So i've to work out how far that actually makes it in real terms.

But if you consider wear and tear... The wheels have spun around enough times to cover that mileage so I guess it's a bit of a moot point.

So it says 202k but in reality according to willtheyfit.com it was approx. 5% out for the duration of that 202k, so in reality it's covered 191k real-life miles, but the wheels have rotated enough to account for 202k's worth of wheel rotations.

Note - this now sounds *****ng amazing.

the turbo must be howling out the back. now im tempted to get the welder out

I'll put up a vid tomorrow of it.

Suffice to say on the way back home after tinkering at a mates... I had a grin from ear to ear and it is a proper howler now... And the pickup with the uprated IC pipes and straight through is epic.

More power and cool noise? Win.

you mean win win

Well... It seems after tonight's East Mids meet I now have 2 people who agree that my exhaust is loud, but kick-ass. ;)
