Reversing lights

Featured Replies

Just backed down my drive in the dark for the first time ( only had it a week and 3 days ) and the reversing light is poor to say the least; there is only one on the nearside; my old 1.9 SDi had one each side. Any body else found this and is there a mod to overcome this problem, please? Different rear lens, bigger wattage bulb, maybe?

Old School is best to be honest

Maybe try a cree led - I've installed one to mine and it's much better from the stock bulb. Also people will notice the light from miles away - very bright.

or you could find the Chinese rear lights which got two reverse lights (apparently) - but will be extremely hard to find. I guess...

Chinese ones probably don't have the rear fog light though...which is an EU spec requirement.

They are not there to light your way in reverse,

only to show oncoming drivers you are there and the direction you are going in.

As far as I am concerned, the purpose is to enable me to see who or what is behind me and at the moment this requirement is not fulfilled.

Correct

found my solution today, mounted two mini cruise lights in the rear bumper, filled and almost painted, wired them through the reverse light but the light in the taillight must be an led lamp otherwise only one works, http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/product_detail.asp?prod=1067 get these for about 20 to 30 quid on ebay and some twin core cable 98 amp did mine. if u want some pics guys and girls let me know

:D solved my problem

pictures of finished bumper will be great!

good idea!

Well, you learn some thing new every day.So to hope they can light the way reversing up my narrow drive is an unrealistic hope? In the 21st century they can fit things like auto lights and wipers and intelligent cruise control but nothing to help my view reversing in the dark?

I was aware that reversing lights could not have relectors, but what about extra lights for off road use only, are these legal as long as they are not used on the public road (and of course not activated by reverse gear selection)?

XK140,

We used to put a nice round spotlight on the rear of our Minis, not so much to aid reversing, more to say get of my jacksy.

In fact some still do fit them. Look nice on the rear of Escort MK1& 2.

I still do fit them to offroaders.

Quite powerful 'worklights' sometimes, on a seperate switch.

and these are not tested in a MOT.

I keep my lights front and rear just enough & i stay 'Much Cheapness' £90 Light Pods, & sometimes just using rechargable 'million candle hand or bracket work lights'

but its easy to light up the world if you want. (Those LED light bars are £500)

Handy when magnetic ones are movable to front or rear or 2 sets fitted.

Obviously the OP has reached a good solution to the problem for his car & needs.

Have a look at the post mentioned below
