Finally found what the whirring noise is.....

Featured Replies

Skoda confirmed to me the whirring noise I can hear is a motor unit that is used to adjust the front headlights. Sod's law the whirring noise didn't happen once the two hours it was at the dealers. Grrrr! I recorded the sound last night they listened to it and said yeah it's likely to be that. Thinking it would just be a warranty replacement etc....nope! Because it wasn't making the said sounds at the dealer they can't approve it for a warranty claim. 'Come back when it's doing it again'.

Thanks :o/

what sort of headlights? hid or standard bulbs?

when do you normally hear this noise? if hids when you turn them on (when they do the selftest / level), or ordinary bulbs when you move them

if in the above then the slight whirring you hear is normal, if you hear it at other times (let us know when) it would seem to indicate a fault

I spoke with the dealers and Fabia II vRS like mine doesn't have self levelling lights, just normal projectors with H7 bulb. The only moveable thing is from cabin load levelling setting and high beam shutter.

Unless you operate them they are inert and do not make noises.

I can believe this.

One of my headlights went on the blink recently.

After adjusting them up/down it would stop but you could still hear the motor whirring away and would carry on until I moved them back the other way.

Could be the motor is trying to move the light and it has come off it's runner or something.

Yup, sounds like just that. Ask somebody to adjust the the beam while you look and listen with the bonnet open . You might be able to narrow down which one it is
