please help....clutch pedal sticking to the floor

Featured Replies

hi folks, i have bought a 2003 skoda superb 2.5 tdi, problem is the clutch pedal has a tendancy to stick to the floor, i knew this when i bought the car and ive changed a few clutch master and slave cylinders before so thought i would be fine and went on ahead with the purchase however since doing some research ive found out its a gearbox out job?

it took a day to get used to it but now i can drive it with nearly no issues at all i have mastered taking the clutch out slowly when taking off in 1st and not resting my foot on the top of the clutch, worst time is when trying to pull out of a junction and trying to ride the clutch it will sink to the floor and you have to quickly try pull it up with your toe.....not ideal!!

i checked the clutch pedal itself and the metal frame does seem to have a little bit of dark fluid which would suggest master cylinder? but im told its more than likely the slave in the gearbox?

so has anyone on here any experience in doing one of these in the 2.5 tdi? gearbox out? big job?

thank you in advance!

A similar thing happened in-frequently on my old Toledo, and i was advised that the first thing to do was to change the Brake Fluid, don't know if you've trid this but maybe worth a try. :)

The first thing to try is bleeding the system. Use a pressure bleeder and do the brakes at the same time.

If that dosen't work then it's likely one of the cylinder has gone... just hope it's not the slave...

This seems to be a perennial VAG fault - my son's ancient Passat had it.

I just hooked up an extra return spring to the pedal. It does not need to be super strong because the pedal sticks at the floor, when the spring tension is at its maximum. It worked like a charm and was much less trouble than changing the slave cylinder - which I believe is the problem (but I never really found out). The car was OK until it was scrapped.

I thought it was only the 6 speed gearboxes which had the internal (concentric) slave cylinder - my 5 speed has an external one. It's a sod to get to though.
