  • Before assuming there's a bodyshell water leak, I'd change the pollen filter (under LH side scuttle trim panel.

  • I have a working Recirc flap, still get occasional steaming up, I tried a tub of salt (recommended DIY solution) but still had moderate condensation (albeit not as bad). My pollen filter is fine so I

I think Wilkinsons have some as well, so will try there this weekend.

Wilko are expensive, B&M or Home Bargains would be a better bet..

Cheers, we have someHome Bargains in Swansea, so I'll check them out. BTW who are B&M ??

Similar to Home Bargains, B&M Homestores or also called B&M Bargains

Found some in Home Bargains £1.99. Thank you.

Hello again all.

Revisiting this as wet weather and cold temperatures seem to be the problem. Why the air con cuts off at 6c I have no idea. When above 6c I have substantiually less condesation. I have checked the cabon filter and it was just filthy and not damp so I have replaced that.

I have noticed that I am losing fluid from the cooling system at the rate of needing topping up 6-8 weeks. The car is not over heating at all on the temp gauge. Now if there is some loss of water which is vapourising this may be the cause of drawing damp wet air in the the heating system. I took the car to the local garage and he could not get the windows to steam up but it was 10c on that day!.

There must be some small leak somewhere. Can I buy something that will seal the leak(s)

As a matter of interest, are there air vents closest to the windscreen? If there is, I dont to be seem to be getting any air from there. The vents from on the top of the facia work fine but any air coming out of there causes the window to mist up quicker. If I have max heat on in car after 30 mins ( apart from me being really sweaty) the windows actually start to clear!

I have ordered some damp extraction crystals to put in the car. Can they be reused by drying out the crystals?

A few things there for some advice and guidance please. Cheers

Oh my car passed its MOT with flying colours....and was told its a very clean car.

Just a thought, is there another filter under the glove box compartment as the garage said to me there was. The filter I have just bought went in to the top close to bulk head (if you follow my drift)

I still cant get rid of the curry smell that comes out of the vents when the heating is on hot. Does not smell when cold. (no there is not any left over curry in the car lol)

The AC cuts off at 4 degrees because it will only ever cool to 4 degrees. Once the outside air is below 4 it would just be wasting fuel.

If you are losing coolant then the heater matrix in the car could be leaking which would cause the steaming

So, your car isnt stuck in recrirc modem (read above) and pollen filter is new/clean/not damp?

Are the carpets damp?

@Just bought some today - £1.79 - mind have just purchased via ebay a larger one which you can microwave the crystals when they have fully absorbed the water.

Isn't the curry smell indicative of something ? I forget what it was though....:(

Sorry for long time replying - PC has been out of action.

Not stick in recirculation mode

New Pollen filter fitted - old one not damp

Carpets not damp

When I drive car when it is really cold outside, I force air to my feet and causes less problem of steaming up.

When I came back from holiday recently picked car up from Exeter Airport and car just steamed up wholesale. Was so cold outside needed to have heater on. Took 40 minutes for windows to clear. eventually dried on windows - even after cleaning windows they would re steam up. Drove with window open for a while and that made no didfference. Defo moist air being thrown up.

Is there a filter under the dash on passenger side? Why does my car smell of curry as soon as heater is put on? Just cant get rid of that smell. No one seems to come up with a sensible answer on that one. :-( .

It is really dangerous to drive early mornings when dark as I just cant stop the misting. Have had a large crystal bag in my car and that makes no difference to the problem.

Is the suggestion that perhaps the heater matrix is leaking? But if that is the case, why after an 40 minutes does the window start to clear with heat on max and blower on max? Tried all permutations.

Thanks - help please!

Its possible but youd see your coolant level drop if it was. Plus youd have damp carpets. Is the boot area under carpet OK too ?

sounds bit like heater matrix to me. hot coolant smells a bit funky if not used to it.

would be worth getting your cooling system pressure tested

I am beginning to suspect that it is the heater matrix BUT the curry smell when system hot is throwing me. I know the smell your referring to but its not that smell.

A new matrix for the car is about £28.00 on ebay (new). Would you suggest that it is replaced?

Is it easy to fit or is it a garage job?

  • Author

Read a bit more and this looks like a garage job.

I also copy and pasted this from another site (nothing to do with Skoda/Octavia) regarding the curry smell.

"When it starts to go, it just weeps, which runs coolant down into the box the matrix sits in, this pools and gives off the smell when heated.

With the heat turned off, the box is isolated, turn the heat on, and air blows through the box getting warmed, taking the smell with it drying the box out, hence why the scent isn't constant.

Just wait til you get mist coming out of the vents!

Forte stop leak can be used to ward off the dreaded matrix change job, but it will need doing eventually.

I think I will try some of the Forte Stop leak first - or can you suggest any better product?

Going for K seal HD - ordered off ebay - will let you know if it works or not.

Is the coolant the proper pink colour or a murky brown?

Hopefully that sorts it anyways.

Not a murky brown but dont know what coolant was in the car when I bought it. Have had to add water to the system about every 8 - 10 weeks which suggests a small leak.

It depends a bit on make, but the correct colour for OAT is pink/orange/red, not blue or green.

Must admit did not notice colour - so why is the colour so important ? Whats wrong with blue or green?
