Featured Replies

My windows are forever steaming up and only start to clear when I have the heating set to cold but then its very cold in the car. Having only had the car since June this is my first winter with the car so need to know the best settings on the heater etc.

Cheers

Have you got the re-circ button on?

Sorry - did not have glasses on when posting and yes have tried with recirulation button on and off - made no difference.

Sounds like you've got a water ingress problem personally.

Have the scuttle panel off, check for leaves and/or anything that could be affecting drainage.

Also whilst you've got the scuttle panel off, check your pollen filter to see whether it's wet or not.

As with Chris, probably have a water leak somewhere. Check under the drivers and passenger seats - do the carpets feel at all damp?

Does this car have climatronic fitted?

I GET SAME IN MINE :( in winter its crap

DubDean...does your recirc motor work

I agree with Pollen Filter check/change, it's best to do it just to know its done. A damp pollen filter is highlighted even more so by the recent cold spats.

i change pollen filter every six months but found a cover on etka for the plooen filter to direct air in but keep water out collect it tomorrow with new tail light seals just in case all drain holes are clear re sealed round housing too :( still wet / recirc motor????

Its the curved arrow on the climatronic panel.

If this is stuck or broken, it will simply recirculate air inside the cabin and steam up. You can prform a diagnostic check on the climatronic - hold down recirc and econ - this should give you a fault scan and give any error codes.

Your pollen filter is wet?

YEAH IT DOES THEN lol when i press it you hear it change but will check anyway

Have you got a part number and price of the pollen filter cover?

6n2815645 its about 4 quid plus

On the back of the scuttle on the pass side there should be an extra shield underneath it.

yeah mine doesn't have it but will by saturday :)

I have to say, I think these cars are just crap for it. Leak, or no leak. They just fog up in the cold and there's crap all you can do about it. One of the few weak areas IMO. I'm gonna try a chemical solution this week and then I'll be heading to the Alps for testing! So I'll report back. But mine's already annoying me in 5/6 degree temps. -15 should be interesting...

I've had my vrs for over 5 years and every winter is the same, severe condensation, had a couple of water leaks couple of years back but fixed them, car is bone dry inside and IM still plagued by condensation, change pollen filter every year as well, clean windows every couple of weeks.

yeah mines dry lol think its down to too much or too little body venting :( still same

wow lots of things to take in. Changed pollen filter in June this year but will have a look again at it. It was done at the service when i got the car.

Yes I do have climatic control.

I am not sure what the settings should be for air con to work in winter months and to throw out heat. Any advice on this please?

Where are the points on the car where the water will ingress please? Best you give describe exactly where to find these points. i just put fuel in and check the air and tyres although recently I put petrol in my car instead of diesel after driving a petrol car all week. That was soooo costly! :-(

Just make sure that "Econ" and re-circ are turned off and set the temperature you want.

The A/C won't kick in with temps of 6c or lower to prevent ice forming on the exchanger. Does your external temp display work properly?

If you have had the A/C running then request heat you will get some condensation from the vents. This is normal and you just have to wait for the exchanger inside the car the dry out.

Hi Phil - external temp display is working - but how does the air con kick in? Is it a case that the air con needs recharging? What exchanger? where is that situated and how do I know if thats working or not?
