  • Before assuming there's a bodyshell water leak, I'd change the pollen filter (under LH side scuttle trim panel.

Hi Phil - external temp display is working - but how does the air con kick in? Is it a case that the air con needs recharging? What exchanger? where is that situated and how do I know if thats working or not?

The air con will kick-in automatically.

When "Econ" is switched off the A/C will run all the time (as long as the temp is above 6c) with varying levels.

The exchanger is just the element that the coolant for the A/C passes through to cool the air inside the car. It is enclosed in the ventilation system and not easily accesible. The only check for this would be if it was getting cold when it should.

Have you done the check above to see if the screen reads any fault codes? Does the display flash when you turn the car on?

Phil

The air con compressor is controlled electronically to allow it to work when the cabin temperature is above the demanded temperature (full chill) or below the demanded temperature (some heat, some chill, and a bit of dehumidification of the supplied air). Below 6C, the compressor is switched out to protect the condensor from excess ice bulidup.

:bandit:

Also try getting a cheap (<£3) moisture absorber and leaving it in the rear passenger footwell, worked well for me in my mondeo.

When it's winter more often than not your feet are wet, carpets get wet and that moisture just turns into condensate!

I fear you may be underestimating the sneakiness...

Just run the test as suggested and i got

left hand side of display - 4FA

right hand side of display - 00

can you please explain what that means please?

Cheers

A quick google shows up it's to do with the recirculation flap. Could be that it is stuck closed and so only recirculating the air and you're not getting fresh air.

Basically your recirc flap motor is stuck (probably in recirc mode like mine was).

You can change the motor but its a very tricky job (approx £70 + fitting). I would suggest you do what I did. Take the glovebox out, and the blower motor (10 min job). Then youll see the air flaps the motor controls

Move the flaps and also then try the recirc motor button. They should not move from the 'off' position in the video. Also, if your pollen filter hasnt been changed do this too and use the air conditioning as well (press auto). ECON switches it off. You should find this helps the misting. The recirc option is not a widely used thing anyway - I would simply move the flaps manually, put it all back and forget it existed!

I've had my vrs for over 5 years and every winter is the same, severe condensation, had a couple of water leaks couple of years back but fixed them, car is bone dry inside and IM still plagued by condensation, change pollen filter every year as well, clean windows every couple of weeks.

Again, I would check for leaks and perform a climate control test, you may have the same error code. 04FA

That is very helpful - thank you. I have a mechanic who i trust and is very very good with vehicles of all types.

One thing I noticed tonight which my well confirm what you are saying is that there is no air coming out of the vents close to the windscreen. I can only get air from the vent on top of the dash if i push the button which has that symbol on it.

Its a do it yourself job if you have a small toolkit. No, the directional controls should still work, with recirc on you are simply recycling the internal air and not pulling any fresh air from the outside via the cabin filter.

Also, I'll be trying a new anti-fogging product this week. (I'm trying a lot of products for various things for my trip!!) and I'm optimistic at this point :giggle:

I'll keep you guys apprised.

Have you tried pressing the windscreen demist button? Do you get air then? Or if you press the button for the upper vents you should also get air through the windscreen vents.

The windscreen demist button (is that one on the climate control0 - ys the air blasts out of there but i dont get anything at all ( so it appears to me) from the windscreen vents.

One question re the recirculation button - when I depess it I can hear the change of tone of the air as those something has moved - but still no air out of the windscreen vents.

And finally, when i turn on the heat, it smells of curry (and I dont know what type of curry either) - the pollen filter has been changed. I did use a cherry bomb which cleared the curry smell on the cold blast.

Did someone say that the pollen filter is under the passenger seat in the front? I had a look today for it and i could not find it. Help!!

tbh its probably the curry that is under the passenger seat!!!!

the pollen filter is located under the passenger side scuttle cover (the bit that covers the front wiper linkage at the bottom of the windscreen - if you try to remove these be very careful (don't do it in cold weather when the plastic is brittle) and pull the directly away from the surface of the windscreen, the plastic slots in a groove and is easily broken

I have a working Recirc flap, still get occasional steaming up, I tried a tub of salt (recommended DIY solution) but still had moderate condensation (albeit not as bad). My pollen filter is fine so I bought this...

Cost me £1 from Asda, I put it here...

...and it's worked an absolute treat. No condensation, no moisture, not even steaming up after I've got in with wet feet. Perfect for the winter months.

Happy Phil :D

Wish my ASDA stocked these. I've asked, but they have not heard of them. Any stock number on it please.?

Poundland have them sometimes too.

If you Google 'Kontrol damp' with the 'K', the refill bags are best value, you can just put some in an old taped up margarine tub or other container and punch some holes in it, or buy one of their bespoke containers.

Looks like a good alternative - will give that a try.

I have established that there is a greasy film on the internal part of the windscreen and be damned if I cant get rid of it no matter what I use. Any ideas please?

And finally, is there a way of having the air conditioning on only on the windscreen and the heater blowing hot air? I can do that on my large 4 x 4 but cant seem to do it on the Skoda.

If you have climatronic there should be a windscreen button.

Did you check the recirc flaps also?

Some window cleaner or vinegar/newspaper should sort that.

Edited by Liverpool-Lad

Vinegar is very good but I can't stand the smell in the car (good on chips though) autoglym fast glass is fairly good

Fast glass is good, something like nail polish remover would clear grease well too.
