VRS turbo issue

Hi Guys,

Fairly recently bought my first Skoda, and am now the owner of a standard (IE, no go faster mods) VRS (02)

Driving home today on the M5 I put my foot down in 4th expecting a good linear pick up from the turbo, but the car accelerated like it was on a bungee. It still accelerated hard with no loss of speed but it certainly felt 'funny'.

It drives without fault through all gears if taking my time with no harsh acceleration.

Any ideas?

Vacuum leak somewhere although not 100%

Someone will come up with a detailed answer no doubt

Check all your small bore vac lines are securely atteached, especially at the recirc valve, also check your breather hoses for splits and holes, especially the y pipe at the top of the engine.

If nothing is obvious, then a code scan would be wise.

Has the car had it's coilpack recall carried out

P.S. throttle body may need cleaning also, do you know the service history?

It could also be the N75 valve. I had this with mine on full throttle it was like the power was on, off, on, off if you know what I mean. I changed the N75 valve and this has gone away.

Are any fault codes logged? Engine management light on?

Plastic engine cover off and go from there. Most of the vac pipes lead under the inlet manifold and are tricky to see.

The claw was the one under the engine cover that was common

worth having a good check on that one ;)

Right, in order....thanks for the info ref the vac pipes, I will have a good check the next time it's dry?? Can you please tell me where the recirc valve is (sorry, new to Skoda scene and my 1st VRS). The coils have been replaced with the latest VAG version and the car has main dealer FSH (showing 73000)

N75 valve? What and where is this please? Your description mirrors my problem perfectly and makes perfect sense too.

Thank you to you all so far and you have all given me someting to go on. If I cannot solve the problem myself, I will have the codes checked and see if it throws up some ideas.

The y pipe, recirc valve and n75 are all in the same area at the r/h rear of the engine as you look in the bonnet. The y pipe is connected to the cambox and leads onto the other items in turn. Will try to find a piccy link later.

If so I have one ready to fit but am not sure it it is worth my while?

This picture is not 100% accurate, it seems that on that engine N249 valve and vacuum reservoir was removed. Usually DV is connected to vacuum reservoir and N249. Also stock air filter housing is missing, little blue filter is for SAI pump.

If this is completely stock you should not need that filter as it connects into the air box.

Oh yeah that is not how a stock bay would be exactly. But it shows the parts the op was looking for. It has had a n249 bypass by the looks of the extra tubing.
