Lowering + Spacers?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

My car is being lowered on H&R 45-50mm springs. The car is a 06 mk2 Octavia vRS TFSI.

I've read threads which state people have fitted 15mm spaces on the rears when lowering. I can't find any explanations as to why though.

Do you HAVE to fit spaces when lowering? What are the advantages?

Apologises if this has been discussed, I did search but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for any info.

well the main advantage of spacers the way i see it is being able to go over speed bumps without hitting as much of it or even clearing it, but i would say it's mainly for style, aswell as getting wheels with a different ET so as not to be closer to struts ect...

Spacers bring the wheels out cliser to the arch. Its all about looks

When a cars slammed the wheels can get lost in the arches, just makes it look nicer imo

Im running 12mm front 15mm rear (mk1 leon)

Thanks for the info guys. I'll give them a miss if not essential.

One other question........

Is there anything I should know about before lowering. Read something about it being a difficult job, hubs were mentioned?

I may be wrong, but I think it's good to check the alignment is right after its been lowered.

The back is a doddle. The front is more trickier!

I managed it on a mk5 golf (should be similar) you'll need to split the hub on the front which is the hardest part then try get the shock out.

Possibly you could try the rears yourself and if you find it easy attempt the fronts or if you struggle get a garage to do the fronts!

I can do all 4 corners in 3 hours on my drive with axle stands so a garage are taking the mick if they try charge more than 3 hours labour

I went to my local mechanic who fitted them for 40 pounds.

Found a split CV boot which he is changing for a tenner. Can't say fairer than that!

Thanks for the advice guys.

Thats mega cheap! How does your mechanic feed his family?

doesn't pay the tax man :D

Hehe!

He is a long term family friend, I get special treatment! :p

I'd be interested in seeing it on springs - I was contemplating coilovers for mine but may just shove some springs on it...
