Respray costs?

Featured Replies

I'm currently thinking about having my car resprayed for a new project, but I've never had this type of work done before and I'm after a bit of advice.

I'm not after anything fancy - no special paint with glitter in it, or pearl effects, etc. I'm simply after a bog-standard grey/anthracite paint.

Does anyone know how much I should be paying for such a job? Obviously quotes would vary from company to company, but what would a "ballpark" figure be?

Am I looking at a few hundred? Thousands?

Any advice really appreciated

Depends on the quality of the finish you want.

I would have thought you're looking at £1k minimum for a pro job.

The main costs are in the preparation work, filling/sanding etc... An anthracite grey colour will more than likely be metallic which is no more expensive than a pearl effect really, they are basically the same thing anyway..

i would expect a full respray in a different colour to cost at least £1500, if it's going to be resprayed the same colour it would probably be cheaper because they don't necessarily need to do all the door shuts etc

audi nimbus grey is an awesome colour, but that is a pearl finish, got lots of green in it iirc, some of the new fiat colours are very nice too and there's some good greys to choose from.

i had a couple of quotes for my octy and they were £3500-£4000. but thats the whole car,in and out! i used to work in a paint shop, its very hard work and alot of work. you could easily lose 100 man hours on the prep (even with air tools) of such a large car, just on the outside too!! nevermind under the bonnet and wings.....if you pay £1500,it will look like you only spent £1500!!

Could you look to plastidip it?

There's someone in the octy project journals who did it a matt black. Probably cost a 1/4 of the price of a full respray :-)

I had the whole outside of my fabia resprayed in same colour as previous and it cost me £900, trade price.

Octavia is a bigger car and your looking to completely changing the colour, so I recon you would be looking around £1500 upwards.

Anyone have any decent recommendations in the North West?

Not looking at the extent of the above, will need to get some bumpers done soon.

On the original question, I would have thought £1500 min, for a basic external job. Unless you're going to keep it, it's not a great return on investment as will look potentially dodgy come resale time. Have you considered wrapping instead?

Cheers for the responses - looks like the cost is going to be huge. I've decided to opt for a military paint job... and I'm going to do it myself!

You could always have a vynal wrap done instead and that way you dont have to tell the DVLA.

Thanks Colin. I have a PM conversation with 'Terri' but it went no further, based on the responses received.
