Buyer's Remorse - after 4 weeks of Skoda ownership

Featured Replies

£1 Essentials in Tesco, (someone mentioned in a Citigo thread, not seen them myself.)

Caravan Antidamp mould/damp kits etc. I have used.

Or i use Rock Salt in a Margarine tub,

tape on the lid & punch some holes.

One in the boot & one under the driver seat most often.

Refresh every winter. Salt acquired from the Salt Bins. Much Cheapness.

Some people use Rice & swear by it, (i use that to dry out small electricals rather, damp phones, keys etc)

, but i find that Salt works fine for condensation reduction in cars..

It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since I picked up my Dec 2011 Superb. 4 very happy weeks of ownership. Impressed by its quietness, impressed by its economy, impressed by so much, until this morning............

Rather than replacing the screen etc, you might want to consider a remote starter like the ones that Clifford do so you could let the car demist itself before you get in.

I had a heated front screen retrofitted to my Sierra, £120 for the screen and £10 for the wiring and a few hours work.

All new fiesta zs from 2006 have heated windscreens.

I can 100% guarantee you're wrong lol, I've driven it every day for the last month and can assure you it doesn't have a heated front screen.

I Had a 57 Fiesta style no heated front , but 59 Focus Zetec Heated front , I know I'm going to miss it in the winter , don't understand why it not caught on with other car makers

My Fabia used to freeze on the inside. :( One of it's many issues.

Me too :(

I thought it was because Ford patented it.

So it costs them very little to fit to (most of) their vehicles, while other makers need to slip them a few quid to do it.

Even the transits have had it for a few years, yet it cost me £200 as an extra on the Yeti.

Ford didn't renew their patent a couple of years ago which is why I'd assumed other marques were now offering it as an option. Had it on my Mini and wish I had it on my current car. Fantastic invention :D

Chris

I had it on a 2001 focus. Best option ever in winter.

Got a garage now which I do use.

I made the same mistake, no heated screen. Even after clearing it inside and out, at the begining of the year my breath was freezing inside the screen. A car that can go almost anywhere scuppered by a cold morning, how embarassing. None of my previous cars have taken so long to get warm air out of the demisters.

Garages are wonderful.

Many many years ago you could buy the equivalent of a mini imersion heater that fitted into the top hose. Switch it on have breakfast and when it's time to go to work you get in the car and the coolant is warmed up and the heater blows warm air. I wonder how long ago the last one of those got sold.

-3 degrees! Frozen windscreen, both inside and out. How I wish I had my Mondeo back! Quick clear windscreens, a standard fitting on just about every Ford sold in the last 10 years. So useful, yet so easily taken for granted.

If its freezing on the inside there must be moisture in the car. Try using the air con a bit more. I don't think I have seen ice on the inside of any car I have had that is fitted with aircon.

I think Ford have some patent rights on the elements for the heated screens.

Heated screens are great until you get a decent chip.

Then it's the quickest way to crack them IME. I survived 2 winters on the same screen by not using it, unlike prev year where I used it all the time and got through 2 (lots of motorway driving)

Just ordered some condensation / de-humidifier pads from Amazon last night after reading some posts on here. They got lots of good reviews on amazon and are re-usable. Hopefully they work. I ordered a set which means you can leave one pad / pouch in the car while you dry the other one out over a radiator. Wasnt too expensive and if it stops the condensation then it will be money well spent.

I think the main problem for me is i have a very short commute at the moment so the car doesnt ever get up to temerature so never gets a chance to dry out inside. This added to wet boot due to dog results in the constant condensation.

Will post reults after i have tried them a while.

There is also a product called 'Pre Icer' which you spray on the windows the night before and it prevents ice forming on the glass and you just wipe it off in the morning with wipers. Have used it a couple of times and it works.

Try to think of other things that can cause moisture in the car - such as using re-circulation mode on the heater, wet swimming towels in teh boot, regularly leaving wet jackets in teh car etc.

Yep my windscreen frozen inside and out this morning , and the heater in the Octy is Cr+p compared to the Focus

well you can't have everything .............wait a min you can it just cost lots of money :giggle:

Whilst I like the idea off the quick clear windshield I hate the fact you can se the element in certain lights. I like my front window to be crystal clear.

My octy 2 used to freeze on the inside, but only after the screen was taken out for paintwork. It went not long after that.

Neve really had the problem on my other cars

The missus Ka Titanium has a heated screen, it's amazing!

The only trouble I have when driving a Ford is that my eyes seem to keep refocusing on the fine wires in the screen.

The heated windscreen in the ford does seem a brilliant idea and i would love it but the above is true also, my mate had a focus ST and the oncoming headlights would distort on these fine wires. It wasnt horrendous but it was noticable. You would probably get used to it over time but it kept distracting me when i was a passenger.

I guess it is a case of YMMV, but I never really noticed the wires, they are so fine (that was in a MK3 Mondeo). Same in my wife's Focus Ghia. There again, its maybe to do with specs! :wonder:

YMMV???

Dont get me wrong it was no show stopper and i would still have the wires if i had the option. I probably only noticed it as it was the first time i had seen it. Considering the condensation problems im having currently it would be the single most used item in my car if i had it.
