Buyer's Remorse - after 4 weeks of Skoda ownership

Featured Replies

I guess it is a case of YMMV, but I never really noticed the wires, they are so fine (that was in a MK3 Mondeo). Same in my wife's Focus Ghia. There again, its maybe to do with specs! :wonder:

I'd agree with this - my eye sight isn't the best either

As Chris says, YMMV - 'Y'our 'M'ileage 'M'ay 'V'ary. It is a disclaimer which first appeared in US car adverts alongside the estimated fuel consumption figures. The abbreviation then came to be used for any situation where one person's experience may well be different from another's.

oh and another thing to check - make sure the air vent intakes are not blocked - they have water drain points which can get blocked with leaves and trap water - therefore moisture is sucked into the car.

I find a hot water bottle placed on the Dash when I first get up clears the screen nicely and also takes the chill off the cabin temp so its not so cold when I get in to head out to work.

Condensor / de-humidifire pouches arrived this morning. Just chucked them in the car. Seems to be a good product as they can be cut into smaller indvidual pouches or left linked together. Got 6 pouches, 2 rows of 3, for around £17 on amazon.

They can dried on the radiator after a few weeks if required and then re-used indefinately.

I have strategically placed these all round the car now its just a case of waiting to see how effective they are. On amazon they seem to get good reviews so im feeling confident.

I did suffer similar problems in my other cars and i remember it happening to a slightly lesser extent in my BMW so i dont think this condensation issue is purely a skoda fault. There is definately excess moisture inside my car but this is due to how i use the car not leaking seals etc.

If its a sucess or a total failure i will let you know.

After another morning scraping ice, and more sub-zero nights already forecast for next week, I'm seriously thinking of.......

21CVlJkdv1L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

£14.00 on Amazon, 60 watt, with an extension cable running from the garage.

Sitting on the floor, it should surely raise the interior temperature enough to stop the windows freezing. It's only 1 foot long so should sit quite stably on the carpet.

Worth a try, you all reckon? Or would it turn into a Superb II steam room?

I used to have older versions of those that i used in my Land Rover & Camper van when parked up over the winter.

(I used to years ago use a very old one, sitting in a box, under the diesel fuel tank in really cold weather)

I think you would be better with one of these.

B&Q, Wickes, Dobbies etc today, should be £20 or less.

or just out of town, @

You can use for lots around the house or shed/garage all year, Cold Fan or 2kw thermostat control heater.

'Greenhouse Heater Fan set' at just above 0*C or even more above to defrost & it will switch on and off through the night,

the slight gap where the lead comes in the window is enough ventilation.

This morning at -4*C the car was toasty at 5 degrees & no Frost on the glass outside.

Yeah George

A fan-heater with a frost setting is an option. I'm just wondering about the economy of a 1 or 2KW heater going on and off, or a 60W heater on constantly, simply providing ambient background heat. I also had thought of running the tubular heater through a plug-in thermostat. Certainly think I'll give one or the other a try. I can see my wife's eyes light up if I mention Nurseries Direct! (my only hesitancy re. a fan heater is I've already watched one catch fire - it was in a workshop and was immediately unplugged - can't do that in the driveway at 3am!)

PS - was looking out for your red Fabia last night - was down visiting some folks in Girvan!

I was up north & back to park up the Fabia for the winter.

Even winter tyres are little use on black ice.

(the thing missing on a DSG is a *Snow Button)

I normally use around 6 to 8 units a day (kwh) on the electric meter at home, £1- £1.30 or so,

&

2 fan heaters set in the cars only use only 1-2 extra units max a night in the coldest weather, often nothing extra noted.

If i have it set just above 0*C defrost setting, then just before i set off i turn it up high for a couple of minutes.

I keep it in the car incase of being someplace really bad.

Up by the Moray Firth the hoar frost can be really bad & build up

& if i can plug the extension in somplace its quite an easy set off in the morning.

Low fan setting & low Heat

& just put in the passenger footwell.

This is day 2 of zero condensation for me. Really amazed by these "pouches" i bought. Not even a hint of condensation since plomking them in the car and dog was really wet yesterday.

Wish i had found out about these earlier. I cant recommned them enough. I put all 6 pouches in the car with 2 of them stuck down with velcro tabs onto the plastic either side of the rear parcel shelf.

I will leave them in the car untill the condensation overwhelms them and this will indicate how long they last before needing dried out. Worth every penny of the £17 i paid.
