Goosed Throttle Body? :(

Featured Replies

No feedback in the Diagnostics section so thought I'd post to the wider audience

Started up the Roomy the other morning after the long and spirited drive down to London for the Grafitti Tunnel Meet and had an EML with 'Exhaust Workshop' popping up on the maxidot.

Ran a scan today and it threw the following codes (not included full scan as all else was clear)

Reading the threads HERE and HERE the prognosis looks costly :(

Anyone any thoughts??

TDIs don't have throttle bodies.

Phil

Yeah, not a throttle body as said. I don't know the roomy engine yet, but I do know some 1.9tdis have a variable intake system. Basically a flap in the manifold. On my A3 I used to have it was controlled by a vacuum motor, but that was controlled by a solenoid. So I'd suggest it's the wiring or that solenoid.

EDIT:

it seems on the roomy its an electric system. In the wiring diagrams its some electronics and a motor with a 5v supply, an earth and three other connections from the engine management unit. Sorry I can't be more specific as I can't go and look at mine (OK won't it's cold and dark).

It does have a throttle body (as Skoda describe it).

Technically a diesel doesn't have a flap connected to the pedal but it does have a butterfly in the air intake system that in this case is controlled by the ECU. This is used as both an anti shudder valve and EGR, as a diesel doesn't produce vacuum in the inlet manifold the flap is used to create a depression behind that draws the exhaust gas back into the system. Technically as Skoda see it and it's kinda lost in translation a bit a throttle is anything that limits flow, so it's a throttle body.

And tbh I've not had another issue other than the throttle body itself, pretty good bet that's the issue.

Thanks for the info.

Would an EGR & ASV delete solve the problem?

Yeah if you can get is mapped out, not sure on what the current deal is with the electronic ones.

Just to update this thread. Visited Shark Performance this week for a map tweek following the fitment of a decat exhaust. Ben and Mikko worked their magic and have successfully 'mapped out' my failed EGR/ASV.

Thanks Chaps

For anyone else wondering if it can be done..... Yes!! it can
