VCDS code for daytime instrument backlight

Featured Replies

Hello all,

One thing I noticed after transitioning from my Golf to the Octavia was the lack of backlit main instrument dials (speedo/tachometer) during daytime when the lights are off. The Golf had backlit dials all the time, which improved readability, particularly in afternoon light or morning light.

So, I would greatly appreciate anyone's advice on how this feature might be activated through VCDS.

Not tried to do it on an Octavia, but if it is there then it will be under instruments and adaptations.

Thanks for the reply. I will have to place my faith in my non-genuine Volks service guy to find it, but appreciate the advice.

I did this on my Octavia - but I can't remember how I did it and I no longer have the car!

Can't be done as far as I am aware, I've sent a few emails back and forth with Dana from Ross Tech who doesn't think this can be done on the BCM or instrument cluster fitted to our cars. it's only lit needles or nothing. mines a 2012 car.

If anyone knows differently then great.

I think you're right, when i think about it, it was my wife's A3 I did it to

I have done it on SWMBO’s TT, but despite the coding being there it didn’t work on a A4.

I will be coding a LE Octavia at the weekend, so I will take a look.

Thanks once again to everyone's reply. It seems a shame that it can't be easily done, as it makes a lot of sense. One less reason to pursue a Ross tech kit I guess.

Found no coding on the LE for lit instruments.

Darn. Thanks for checking. I still think it's old school way of presenting a dash. Sometimes I do miss my mk6.
