Upgrading lift Pump?

Featured Replies

I was reading that upgrading my in tank lift pump to one for a pd engine is supposed to help with general running and power on non pd lumps like mine.

What knowledge is there on here that might help ,e decide whether to do this mod or not?

Also seen a pierburg lift pump that goes near main pump, this also is supposed to help.

Any pointers would be appreciated

You don't have a lift pump and Bosch don't recommend one.

Well that's clear enough, thanks for that. waste of money then?

Yes. Assuming it doesn't create any problems, you would just have more fuel returning to the tank.

of course aye. Just noticed some had done it and said it improved performance, based on return pipe that cant be the case. Only time i can see it being of benefit i suppose is if you get run back in the night - in which case new pipes would be better

In tank lift pumps are to ensure there is an adequate flow of fuel to the VE pump and injectors to prevent fuel starvation.

Only really needed at high rpms and for high power VE tdi's - so not really needed.

You'd be better off drilling your check valve in the in-tank fuel sender :)
