Software EGR adaption - flow turn down

Featured Replies

Has anyone done the EGR turndown via VCDS which appears to be a semi blank of the EGR without the warning light issue, there are lots of reports on this on the net including the following:-

"Many people suggest turning down the EGR with a VCDS but the ECU will adapt and the result is lower fuel economy."

and

"This is correct. I had done a few of these adaption changes in conjunction with intake cleaning to try to help the customers save or prolong some future expense. In keeping with the old axiom "no good deed goes unpunished" several did notice loss of fuel economy so I set them to original spec and have discontinued changing them. The MAF readings did change a good bit (15 - 20 %) after the reduction of EGR duty cycle."

I did mine about 15k miles ago.

Fuel economy hasn't gone down.

We still manage to get 60+ mpg at 70mph with cruise control on.

I can't really see how it would lower the economy as all it is doing is telling the ECU to draw less air through the EGR and take more fresh air in.
